James Maddison

Absolutely shattered for him. A truly terrible injury to have at any age, but at 28 he should be coming into his prime and now you'd question whether he'll ever be able to get back to his best again.

Injuries are horrible for players
I’ve heard many talk about the mental drain of the recovery and training and the isolation
Then add in age too
Got to hope he recovers well but also, selfishly, the club react to fill his role

Terrible news for Madders and the squad as a whole. It's imperative now that the club goes all out to bring someone else in as we really need that bit of creativity in midfield.

We should have been doing that since MGW went tits up, yet a month later nothing especially with Kulu out and a fit Maddison not being able to play a 1/3rd of our games

It's gross negligence from us

I am massive believer that if you buy players for the long term, things take care of themselves. We were buying MGW for the long term and I'm hopeful that any permanent signing we get before deadline day matches that same criteria. Otherwise, another Pahlinha type loan could buy us more time.

I actually don't think we have the excuse this year that bringing in signings too late in the window will ruin the start of our season. Our squad is pretty much set and we're only finessing it at the top end. Getting the wrong signing could be the bigger problem.

Bad news for him, especially in a World Cup year.

Pressure on the board to get someone in now. Before this latest set back we were light in that area already. Now it’s a necessity

When Maddison was on form we played well. Massive setback for this new setup, leaves us short of creativity and leadership.

But we will rebuild, other will have to step up, and huge get well positive vibes to Madders, who might make it back early next year! 💪

I agree in principle at least. May be some exceptions, not sure this is one of them.

MGW seemed like the perfect mix between long and short term thinking. Before Maddison got injured and after. Because even before the injury we (both long and short term) needed another quality option of that kind of profile given Maddison's fitness issues and the lack of those qualities in the squad.

Not sure there is another "perfect mix" player out there we can sign. But someone who can be both a short term real solution and long term the right signing is massively needed.

We must have been working on it, and I'm sure we still are. Transfers just takes time, I reckon.

Obviously not, our resident fact checker and diversity officer has said that it's gross negligence so that's what it is. I've heard the board have been on a golf trip since the MGW saga and have just sacked off any transfer activity because they're moody about what transpired...

It's a damn shame though. Seems a really odd start to the season, losing Son ending an era for the club, firing a manager who won a trophy and now losing Maddison for the majority of the season. Got to feel for him.

With the likes of highly rated youngsters leaving on loan, you've got to think something is in the pipeline....

FFS. Poor bloke. That will be a real test of his character and determination.

On another note; that's out fourth ACL injury in 2,5 years (Bentancour, Perisic, Dragusin and now Maddison). Surely that's a statistical anomaly that the medical team should be very concerned about. Something to do with the hardness of our pitch?

MGW was perfect because he was systemically flexible
He could genuinely play a 6,8 or 10 role and to a high standard
I can’t think of another but the nearest (it will Get sneered at) is Connor Gallagher IMO
Sure there may be overseas options but I don’t know anyone obvious now who hasn’t just signed for someone else
A player I really really like the look of is Nico Paz. He will go on to big things and como would sell. Would also be another argue to keep cuti company
