can we get some proper players on the pitch? at least put clyne on for the lumbering sack of brick currently playing right back, then put on walcott for townsend. at least then we might have two wings capable of getting the ball to the final third and beyond.
 
henderson at right back? lallana the saviour? townsend, lallana, delph, henderson at right back, gobbs - - - - it doesn't have to be this bad. it really doesnt.

i just dont think theres much difference between the team today and the one you've listed. england are unfortunate not to be in front today given the chances that have fallen to rooney

you dont think walcott is better than townsend, clyne is a better right back than henderson, and that we dont have a better left back available than gibbs?

fair enough. its opinions i suppose. not sure many would start phil jones at right back, other than woy.

i really dont think that the team that started today is much different to your team. your xi is perhaps better, but im confident that theyre just as able to put in dross performances to match england squads over the past few years. i agree that i would probably start walcott over townsend, but i really cant remember walcott putting in too many stellar perfomances for england. come think of it, for england i swear townsend has been better than walcott. and i probably would choose gibbs over any other england lb at the moment. there are many good options; baines, bertrand, rose etc, but id probably give the heads up to gibbs (impressed me whenever ive seen him play, although he didnt play much in the past few months).
 
Papering over cracks with that performance.

Sterling is not a £50m player at all and is no better than Lennon was at that age,
Henderson is average,
Delph is average,
Townsend is brick,
Jones is a CB not a RB or a CDM
Smalling is average
John Terry makes Cahill look better at club level.
Gibbs is no better than Rose
Hart has good distribution but is still not a top class GK
Wheelchair scored a couple of good goals and people are now going to say he is "world class". He is average and would not stand out in a Stoke team.
Rooney is our only world class player.

I'm afraid we will have to wait for the next generation before we actually do something substantial on the international scene.
 
JW did seem the only man today who could strike the ball.

Lallana made a big difference.

A lot of hard work but little finesse. Too much fannying around on the edge of the area.

A win.
