What a load of ****! 6 goals against San Marino and Estonia!!!!

****ing awful, boring and predictable. Wouldn't even bother watching if I hadn't had a bet.

maybe its not that bad that chambers is being picked ahead of some other right backs (who perhaps deserve it more based on club performances).

spain and germany have had large number of players coming from a few clubs. ie. barcelona, real madrid, bayern. these players seem to understand each other very well. maybe it'll be good for england that so many english players are at arsenal.

Didn't look like chambers understood what day of the week it was let alone anything else! As Mumorn says, you've got to be good enough in the first place! Pick the best players not inferior players because they happen to be club team mates.

Spain didn't look too great at the World Cup with a predominately barca/Madrid team, don't think it really matters does it? Different manager, different expectations, different playing style...

i personally think knowing your teammates and their tendencies/ playing styles is massively important. and on that basis, i dont begrudge hodgson on picking chambers. chambers has been performing relatively well for arsenal so far. so i think these couple of performances must just be poor form, rather than him not being good enough.

also i dont think we should just be picking the players with the best club form behind them or the best individuals. that kind of belief is partly why we had lampard and gerrard performing so poorly for england for a decade imo.

But wouldn't you agree that the passing is much better and the football more pleasing on the eye than the Sven/McClaren/Capello era? We are creating more chances against all opposition and the build up play appears much better.

Not hard to build up play when the opposition is hoofing it back to our defenders who are under no pressure at all every 5 minutes.

Wheelchair created more chances yesterday than he has managed all season so far for Arsenal.

Not sure how lampard and gerrard playing bares any relation to chambers being picked at right back?

lampard and gerrard were always picked because they were the two best performing english midfielders at the time. many have argued that perhaps it would have been better for one not to have played for team balance/cohesion reasons. chambers knows the arsenal players well, therefore it is possible that he would perform better with the other arsenal players than someone like clyne would. ie. the balance of the team may be better with chambers than another rb who has had superior form, or is even the oturight better individual.

Lampard and gerrard as a central two clearly didn't work and alternative pairings / positions / formations should have been tried, that's just a given.

Chambers doesn't play alongside any of the other defenders for arsenal or even the right midfielder so don't really see any benefit of playing him there just because he plays for arsenal (because we all know that is the only reason he's playing), had he still been at Southampton the currently superior clyne would have been keeping him out of the Southampton side let alone England side. It's like justin hoyte all over again. Chambers may turn out to be a decent centre half but everytime I see him play right back he's appalling.

Your point on Spain=barca\Madrid and Germany = Munich, these teams buy all the best players and win all their domestic (and European) trophies so stands to reason they have all the best players and should be picked for their national sides, don't think it's anything to do with what club they play for. Alba for example played for the national team before and after he signed for barca as he was and still is, the best national full back. Arsenal, in anybodies reckoning are not in the same league as those 3 teams so why build your side around the average English players they have?

Gazza, i'm with you mostly. but im just saying that i dont think its too much of a bad thing that chambers is in ahead of people who have perhaps been a bit better than him so far this year.

barca, bayern do buy all the best domestic players and win titles (domestic and european), but thats not too different to teams like man utd. guys like milner, young, jones, shaw, carrick, lescott, lallana, henderson etc were the best players in their respective clubs before they joined their top4 sides. its just that these guys arent quite as good as iniesta, muller, alba etc. but it does mean that these english players that are at the top 4 sides are still probably better than whoever is currently playing well for mid-table epl sides. and they have the added bonus of knowing genuine top class english players like rooney very well ("footballistically").

arsenal are not in the same league as barcelona. but they still hold some of the best english players. thats why its not a bad idea to start building the england team around the players they have (as well as liverpool and man utd) imo.

Yep, I don't think our opinions are too far away from each other, I'm just in a bad mood!

For me though, I think the playing together in the same team should be the decider if you think players are of equal ability.

Just as an example, during the 2000's, you could argue Rio was the outstanding centre back, 1st choice, (the king was mostly injured otherwise we know this would be a different story!), so would you play Wes brown next to him as they played in the same club team, or would you choose terry or King when fit?

When the drop in standard is that obvious, like chambers currently at RB, then I see no reason to favour the player who has most club team mates in the squad.

Even in the era or Sven etc the passing was terrible. If you were to look back at old videos from that era, you will see a marked improvement. People seem to be missing the point, the build up play and movement is a lot sharper, possibly due to having a younger team.

Our time was 2004, we had on paper arguably one of the best teams in European football. I think our future is bright though if coached correctly not just at club level but at international level too.
