Lovely 3rd goal by England, best bit of play I've seen from them for a long time, since they went 1 down, I've been impressed with England

6 days ago an NFL game was played on it, its normally half decent, blame the FA for wanting to cash in on Wembley

Well they won't cash in from England's success the prize money they'll earn won't cover the airfare to get to the tournament.

As for the NFL playing there well more people watched those games than turned out for England's game.

How many more years will be wasted under Hodgson ? Of course they will qualify easily .............then fail again when it comed to the tournament. We knew this long ago. In world footballing terms England are regressing at such an alarming rate, year by year. Its woeful.

In generations to come people will look at this crop of current England's "best" players and laugh.

i thought Wheelchair was very good today tbh. especially given the pitch conditions

not sure how much the pitch can be blamed on the nfl, you could still see the markings for the side of the pitch quite easily which showed sections which were not used by the nfl were still in poor shape tonight

the effect of last Sunday is obviously not zero but that pitch has never been in perfect condition either, I'm surprised at the complaint as it will always hurt England's opponents more as they will be more proficient on the ball

I think the system Hodgson has us using right now is quite good. My concern is that against any team that attacks us, Wheelchair will be found out in that deep anchoring position. Ideally we need someone who can defend well back there.

Thought Clyne, Gibbs and Hendersen (despite the OG) were the pick of the bunch tonight

Not true.

England are actually playing decent football these days. This team doesn't merely keep possession without purpose. Nor do they just lump the ball upfield aimlessly, like so many England teams before them. They look to move the ball forward at the earliest opportunity - either along the ground into space created in the middle or over the top into space created behind the opposition defence. It's encouraging to see even if it doesn't always come off.

Along with the fact that we have some real talent in the younger age groups, I'm more optimistic about England's future than I've been in years.

Wouldn't the sidelines be where all the NFL players stand when not playing?

I agree, though, that the NFL game is probably not the main factor. The pitch has been criticised for being heavyin the past. Also, didn't we have some unfortunate mishaps due to the pitch in that game with Portsmouth?

yeah, they stand on a covered area, they had some of that astro/felt stuff iirc

the way hodgson was going on you'd think the NFL players take to the field on quad bikes

Terrible first half performance from England in a 4-diamond-2, panned in the press, panned at half time, terrible unprogressive play, no width, no penetration, no chances, bored goalkeeper... it was exactly like watching Spurs.

Hoddle and co. at half time said the problem was a lack of movement, nobody making runs and pulling Slovenia around, they were comfortable; just like playing Spurs every week.

Old Roy Hodgson wasn't happy with that, he switched formation to get some width, 4411, suddenly we are pulling them around the pitch and making runs and making things happen.

Good to see a manager changing things up to good effect, totally different game second half.

Either way England looked poor and will not beat the better sides, but at least the manager changed the formation, got some width and penetration going on.

NB Gutter boy - width means the full backs can't stay narrow, which creates space in the middle, it is not solely about crosses to the big lad circa 1994

Sterling was taking up wider starting positions in the second half. It worked a treat. Spurs need to do the same with at least one of our inverted attackers. Just opens the attacking options
