Erik Lamela: I have adapted to life at Tottenham – but one day I’ll return to River Plate
Tottenham forward
Erik Lamela says that he has adapted to the
Premier League following his arrival in 2013, but admits that he feels the need to return to former club River Plate once his European adventure ends.
Lamela had a slow start to life at Tottenham with only a stunning ‘rabona’ goal against Asteras Tripoli last season troubling the headlines.
However his form has picked up of late and with four goals from 10 games this season it looks as if the Argentinian is starting to fire under Mauricio Pochettino’s stewardship.
Speaking to ESPN FC Lamela said:
“I feel much more confident. I am adapted, but English football isn't easy there is always something new that appears.”
He accepts that Pochettino’s arrival at Tottenham has helped him find his form however also gave credit to the other managers he has worked with at Spurs.
“In some ways it has helped [having Pochettino as manager], but I have also learned a lot from Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood,” he said.
Lamela describes the Premier League as probably the most competitive league in the world but he does not see himself ending his career in England.
Lamela left Argentine side River Plate to join Roma in 2011 and he admits that he would like to return there at some point in his career.
"I feel that it's something that I owe to myself. I left River after the team had fallen down to Serie B," Lamela continued.
"I have something that hasn't finished in my history with River. I owe to them who I am and I owe to myself to play there once I finish my European experience.”
For now, however, Lamela is committed to Spurs saying that he will honour his contract which runs out in 2018 and has by no means ruled out a new deal with the North London club.

Lamela is certainly full of confidence now. Can really see it from his performances so far this season.
