I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Hope Lamela will return from injury soon. But for Argentina, he might as well retire from international football now. Can't see him getting much playing chances for Argentina as long as the stupid Gerald Martino is in charge.

Matt Le Tissier amazed by transformation of Tottenham’s Erik Lamela

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (November 21) that he is amazed at the transformation of Tottenham Hotspur attacker Erik Lamela.

“When he first came over here, he wouldn’t say boo to a goose,” said Le Tissier. “He would jump out of the way of a tackle.

“Now all of a sudden you find a guy who has come with a reputation of a flair player throw himself into tackles, put himself about, and he has been a changed player.”

Spurs[/a] from AS Roma in the summer of 2013, has scored two goals and created 26 chances in 11 Premier League appearances.

The 23-year-old former River Plate man has a pass accuracy of 83% and a shot accuracy of 56%, and has won two headers, 12 dribbles and 21 tackles.

During the 2014-15 campaign, Lamela scored two goals and created 60 chances in 33 Premier League matches.

Lamela had a pass accuracy of 83% and a shot accuracy of 50%, and won six headers, 55 dribbles and 65 tackles

Lamela has really improved greatly this season. But wish he can score more goals for us.

Erik Lamela: I have adapted to life at Tottenham – but one day I’ll return to River Plate

Tottenham forward Erik Lamela says that he has adapted to the Premier League following his arrival in 2013, but admits that he feels the need to return to former club River Plate once his European adventure ends.

Lamela had a slow start to life at Tottenham with only a stunning ‘rabona’ goal against Asteras Tripoli last season troubling the headlines.

However his form has picked up of late and with four goals from 10 games this season it looks as if the Argentinian is starting to fire under Mauricio Pochettino’s stewardship.

Speaking to ESPN FC Lamela said: “I feel much more confident. I am adapted, but English football isn't easy there is always something new that appears.”

He accepts that Pochettino’s arrival at Tottenham has helped him find his form however also gave credit to the other managers he has worked with at Spurs.

“In some ways it has helped [having Pochettino as manager], but I have also learned a lot from Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood,” he said.

Lamela describes the Premier League as probably the most competitive league in the world but he does not see himself ending his career in England.

Lamela left Argentine side River Plate to join Roma in 2011 and he admits that he would like to return there at some point in his career.

"I feel that it's something that I owe to myself. I left River after the team had fallen down to Serie B," Lamela continued.

"I have something that hasn't finished in my history with River. I owe to them who I am and I owe to myself to play there once I finish my European experience.”

For now, however, Lamela is committed to Spurs saying that he will honour his contract which runs out in 2018 and has by no means ruled out a new deal with the North London club.

Lamela is certainly full of confidence now. Can really see it from his performances so far this season.

Erik forgot the ball didn't he? Go get it and put it on your mantelpiece lad! Make space for more dammit haha.

Hearty congrats to a guy I never believed would make a decent contribution at spurs.
Anything is possible for him in his career with the application he has demonstrated in the last two years.

And to think that there were some on here who think Son is better...Well done Lamela, you were excellent tonight!
