I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Eriksen is showing he is special. Lamela is more like Willian at Chelsea. Shows alot of ability but seems to not score or pull of the amazing pass. Willian is a top player but hasn't lived up to the hype yet either.

I think you are being a little harsh on Willian to be honest. Either way a 30m flop at Chelsea is the equivalent of a 5m flop at any other club.

How much had we agreed to pay for him before we were gazumped?

2 goals and 2 assists this season. My point is that because he is at Chelsea his performance hasn't been scrutinised like Lamela. Willian is clearly a good player. You can see it. But he hasn't produced in goals and assists. Lamela the same but the difference is that we paid our record fee for Erik.

Senior Juventus officials have personally scouted Tottenham winger Erik Lamela as they consider making a move to bring him back to Serie A, reports according to Gazetta dello Sport.

Lamela joined Tottenham from Roma for a club record fee of around £30 million last summer, and while there have been flashes of his talent, he has struggled to make a decisive impact on a regular basis.

The 22-year-old endured a difficult first season in England, as injury limited him to just three starts in the league, but he has featured in 19 top flight games under Mauricio Pochettino in the current campaign. He scored his first league goal for Spurs with a well-taken effort from range in the win against Burnley last month.

Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta, sporting director Fabio Paratici and manager Massimiliano Allegri have all combined pleasure with business according to Gazzetta dello Sport, and used holiday time in the UK to watch Lamela in person.

Tottenham are very unlikely to sanction the departure of the Argentina international, especially midway through the season, but speculation over his future could intensify as a result of the Serie A champions’ interest.

Looks totally made up but... how would people feel about it if it also included Llorente into the bargain?

I'd snap their hand off if they offered 15 mil, more likely in the Summer - heard a good interview with Tim Vickery the other night, South American football expert and Spurs fan, "too weak for English football", "the occasional moment of skill" and a "nearly player".

But he did also think he was perfect when we signed him along Poorlinho...

In reality it's impossible to know how a player will turn out

There were no doubt a fair few clubs Lamela would have chosen ahead of Spurs had they offered the same money, but I'd suggest those clubs did their homework and took a thorough look at his attributes and decided against it.

How can this not be said for every single player we sign?

I still want us to keep Lamela. The lad needs to work at some things, but I think he has the ability to become a very good player long term. I also think that if Eriksen were to pick up any sort of injury, Lamela is the only player we have who could replace him.

You have a source/link for this? Of all the things that might have been said "Too Weak for English Football" doesn't sound like one of them tbh..

Tim Vickery "the only english journalist in that area"
Has he stopped raving about Paulinho yet?
Bet he watches us about live about 5 times a season.

The idea that Lamela is weak is ridiculous. He's a strong lad. Compare his physique to Eriksen.
The question about Lamela in the Premier league is does he have the time and space with the tempo of the league and how congested and non technical our games can be.

Vickery is terrible.

I think Eriksen's physique is fine, similar to Iniesta, I also think he has that important short burst acceleration. Lamela still looks flimsy to me, missing the core strength and power to really get away from players.

Check out some of Kane and Chadli's highlights against Chelsea. They downright bullied them with their body strength - there's a great moment when Kane is taking it down the wing and literally shoves Cahill away by leaning into him. Lamela gets this done to him repeatedly. He often gets tackled not with feet but with body strength. I.E. Getting shoved off the ball.
