I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Both good goals in their own right, I'm not sure which one is better though. Geddes had no pace on the ball to already use which on the one hand is impressive but on the other it makes Lamela's control of the shot look the harder (timing etc). Then again he's chipped it over a box of players and lobbed the keeper.

Brilliant today. Scored a blinder. Tracked loads. Laid one on a plate for Kane. Didn't try and injure the opposition. Brilliant.

Agree about Walker. Makes Lamela look a different player as Walker goes on the over-lap drawing their defender with him and leaving Lamela the space he needs when he cuts inside on his left foot.

And if he stays on that side .. he was far less effective when he started to cross over to our left

Not necessarily, he was very effective crossing over to our left against QPR. I see his long-term role as having a free role similar to Bale in his last season.

I'm glad he played well and got a league goal under his belt. Poch has showed more faith in him than I would have, hopefully he repays him from today onwards. Well played Erik!

I thought he had a mare to start with running blind as usual. He then had an effort that didn't come off, and looked a bit disheartened... The he scored a cracker and had a solid game after that. Hopefully the goal will be a springboard but he will struggle until he uses both feet for more tha just standing on

He was able to isolate their LB quite a bit, against 1 or 2 he's a very dangerous player .. it's when he blind alleys into 3/4/5 players and still thinks he can get by.

The play for the cross Kane missed was better than his goal ..

 he didn't have a mare at any point today!

He did. First twenty ran into crowds and looked like the Lamella of most games this season. He then got better so deserved credit

He put in an tidy cross for the Kane miss but imagine if he had a right foot that he would use???!!!

Great goal too but their defending was awful for it

He was partly culperable for their goal along with someone else daunting around with it before Boyd won it off them

All in all though a much improved and welcomed perfomance

I think that's an accurate appraisal of his performance - showed what he can do cutting inside from the right, but didn't put a poor left back under nearly enough pressure and only managed to put a decent cross in once, which should have been a goal - there were many occasions he could taken on the left back and got a cross in but opted to go inside. He didn't really offer any outlet in the second half.

But let the Lamela fan boys have their moment, they've been rather starved of late of anything to crow about.

Nonsense, he was looking good and threatening well before he scored...

His best game for us today I have been very critical of him and was annoyed he was starting again but credit to him well played today hopefully he can get in a run of form now. Incredible that was his first premier league goal hopefully first of many but I'm not going to get carried away either needs to show is the consistency now

Some people cant be positive about anything.
If he doesnt take on the defenders hes not trying. In other game when he does this and loses the ball he's giving the ball away.

I think he had a great game today, especially in the first half. He couldn't believe no one got onto the end of his teasing pass a yard in front of the goal.

Where he needs to improve? I believe he could position himself a bit better. When Mason fed him the ball right before he scored, he pretty much only had the LB to beat before he could take an unhindered shot. He sometimes cuts inside too early or at the wrong moments when he'd be better off keeping to the touchline. He was also reluctant to use his right foot for crossing, so his primary objective when cutting in is to take a shot.
Now that he's got his goal, I think he can feel less pressure to score and continue providing assists like he has for most of the season. Once he and Walker build up more understanding, I hope their interchanges and movements up the right flank will be more fluid.
