I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

I'm still wondering why people think he's not strong physically, whenever I watch him he's fine....

Sitting on my porcelain throne using Fapatalk

He was very good physically today, he has the strength to shrug off defenders which many, previously, have not credited him with possessing.

**** knows but i went to the Fulham away game which was his 2nd or 3rd game iirc and he was top top drawer.
Scored a blinder and tore them apart. But he was playing left back!!! He did use his right foot too in that game

Seriously we cannot even contemplate comparing Bale and Lamella at any level.

Ah yes, I was there for that match away to Fulham. That was the day I knew Bale had something special

Probably not. A part of me wants him to become the player we bought him to replace.

He does need to work on his right foot. I think he is young enough for Poch to coach this in to him. Let's see how he gets on.

Everything about him at Roma made me think he was the perfect player to replace Bale. He looked top drawer and was a star in the making

The pace of the league here though has blown him away I think. He looked lightning quick over there but here he looks normal

He doesnt have Bales pace. But he is quick. And I agree that the Italian league isn't a good guage of whether a player will be successful over here. Lamela and Gervinho are proof of that.

They are completely different players. Bale's game is based around his speed, strength and shooting, Lamela's is about close control.

But that is not how he played in Italy. He was running directly at players and leaving them trailing

I have to to say im not overly impressed with his close control. I'm more impressed with his work rate

I agree in that sense. My hope is that he replaces Bale as our new star. By scoring winning goals and for the opposition being absolutely petrified of him. Not sure it will happen. But it's my hope.

I think that close control is more likely to suffer when you are struggling to come to terms with the pace of a new league which I think has been his problem so far, that and trying a little too hard.

There is definitely a player there, if he can adapt to the pace of the game here then he will be a real threat.

^ don't want to be negative as he was good today but several times he had a chance to put in a cross with his right foot but cut inside I have never seen a supposed top class player who is so one footed

Maradona did fcuk all with his right foot apart from stand on it

So with me saying that two people have referenced Maradone and bale Lamela isn't in the same conversation. My point is it really limits him in some situations. I mean even that amazing goal he scored 99 players out of 100 just hit that with there right the f act he even tried that shows what he thinks of his right peg

The reason he is being played there is so that he hits shots like that with his left

Lamela has shown that he CAN use his right foot; Obviously his main foot is his left, but I have no doubt that he will start to use his right foot more as he gets more confident and stronger on the PL.

What a difference a week makes eh:cool:

And how many times is he gonna do that a season, 3 maybe, compared to how many assists a player with a decent right foot could provide.

I think a lot of this debate is down to those who have played football and those that haven't. I would urge the latter to go in their gardens with a ball and imagine you are taking a cross with your stronger foot, but then, without changing body shape, cross with your weaker foot, and you will see all you can do really is to flick the ball, almost like a toe poke - you won't be able to get any whip or power on the cross at all.
