I aint no Sheikh-but lets talk weather

FFS. Kids sent home from school with just 1-2 inches of snow on the ground. Bunch of pussies.

Where I grew up (Warlingham, Surrey) we lived high up on a hill and had some incredible snow at times. I remember walking several miles in over a foot of snow countless times, and the only thing that closed school was the heating packing up.

Nation of tarts, we've become.

I was just saying to someone the other day.........................

do you remember back in your schooldays (primary and middle)when the ice and snow turned up, making 30 yard skid patches on the playground and all us kids having a barrel of fun on the sheet ice in our slicked bottom (worn out) school shoes without any teacher batting an eyelid, a cracked head just went with the territory.

But back then if you fell over you were called an idiot, these days people are that brick scared of being sued no one is willing to take any chances.

Stopped a lot sooner than was forecast here. Shame.

Another hit forecast Sunday though?............and then a repeat of this early next week?

Well our bosses told us to leave by 3.30pm at the latest, trains were busy but ran on time, no further snow from monday at all where i live, and even asda was stocked full of food

We could do with Sheikhs' forecasts here, to get a proper picture of whats happening next.

Anyone pick him up on FB?

(he isn't banned from here, by the way)

Got in to work fine, but got called home as daughter's school was shutting at 11. We didn't even have heating in one my schools, just portable oil radiators if it got too bad.

Massive 1060mb Arctic High PERFECTLY teleconnecting to 20-day -ve AO tropospheric response following SSW. Such Arctic Highs are about as rare as a dinosaur dancing to Justin Bieber...

As an addendum: what this signifies in practical terms is that it plays havoc with the normal oscillations, usually bringing with it potential for SERIOUSLY cold air to flood down across Europe.

If you like cold: this is holy grail...

Christ. I get some of that, but.............

so, is it going to carry on snowing?

I heard a met office guy say he doesn't expect us to see our lawns again until well into February.

I have a craving for a giant gobstopper for some reason :-k

Didn't get any snow yesterday but it's started again today, Friday was enough snow thank you very much.

Well bang to the met office forecast of it getting heavier in Colchester from 12pm its started snowing a lot heavier, got 6 hours of this apparently...

Just back from a long dog walk round my local forest.

It got noticeably heavier while out, and has been persistent all morning.
If this is moving North, it could still be a problem.
