Re: O/T - Glasgow Rangers go into adminstration
Is that when sky launched their satellite?
Precisely in 1919.

That would cause issues no?
They can't enter at conference level simply due to the cost that other teams would have to endure to get there.
Would be unfeasible.
Would it be unfeasible?
Surely it's just as easy for Ebbsfleet or Braintree Town to go to Belfast as it is Glasgow.
I simply wouldn't allow Rangers to come south to play as it then opens the door for every other Scottish team to "do a Rangers" and go into liquidation just to join the English leagues.
Oh, and whoever brought up US leagues allowing in Canadian teams as an example I'd just point out going from Vancouver to Miami to play a game is like travelling from London to Moscow and back. It can't be used as an example due to the sheer disttances involved in travelling anywhere within America.
if anything, Merthyr should be the case Rangers cite
Merthyr Tydfill FC were dissolved in 2010 and relaunched as Merthyr Town. As a totally new club they were still admitted into an English lge, even though they are welsh based.
hhhmmmmm, that does rather change the argument as they is so recent.
would the FL or PL let them in?
Hell, why not also invite Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, AC and Inter Milan, Ajax, Porto, Benfica and Paris St Germain to join the Premier League as well?
What if Barca or Real or Bayern or ManU get tired of playing in their ponds and wants a European Super League instead?
Excellent question.
It's only a matter of time until they do.
Chances are there will be a European super league in the future. The main question would be whether the Big Clubs run it or UEFA run it. Then the question becomes which clubs will be in it. While they could pick the richest clubs, in which case we make the cut, they are more likely to select quotas like in the CL. We might miss out.
So imagine. Rangers get invited into the English system, helping to establish the precedent with UEFA. Then when Real and Barca get bored we invite them, perhaps along with Ajax and Porto. Now the Premier League is the league everyone wants to join. So we invited some german and Italian clubs, expand the PL to several divisions and arrange feeder leagues across Europe, perhaps even the world. But its still our league, with Spurs as one of the founder members. No UEFA, no Platini, no FIFA.
As far as i was aware there are no seas between england and scotland, and there are some between England and Ireland.
As far as I'm aware there's something called an aeroplane.
Yup, which is expensive.
Which was the whole point in the first place.
*face to palm*
Careful with the face to palm you could do yourself damage, I said it was just as easy not just as cheap. But then again have you tried to hire a coach (I have) it probably is as cheap to fly than go by coach.
Not when you start to consider how many people you are flying over there.
You pay a flat rate for a coach, you hire the whole coach. Job done.
You hire a coach to get themselves to the airport, followed by a plane, followed by a coach at the other end, followed by a hotel, and then a coach back to the airport, a plane back, a coach back to their home (wherever is its).
Yes, i see what you mean, the second is clearly just as cheap and easy as the first.
I give up!!!
I said it was feasible not cheaper. Yes cost does come in to it but you said it couldn't be done because it wasn't feasible, there a flights to Belfast so therefore it is feasible.
Merthyr Tydfil in various guises has a history in the English leagues. An earlier Merthyr Town F.C. were in the football league in the 1920s (founder member of the Third Division as part of the mass move from the Southern League). They joined the English system (Southern League) in the early 1900s like Cardiff, Swansea and Newport.
I think one of the disturbing things about this discussion is that we are only discussing Rangers (and Celtic). Here is a club that has cheated and wants special treatment. A club like Hearts or Hibs of Aberdeen or a Dundee club are just as deserving as a chance to join the English system. Perhaps we should invited all the Scottish clubs and leave Rangers and Celtic on their own to play each other every week.
'They can't enter at conference level simply due to the cost that other teams would have to endure to get there.
Would be unfeasible.'
Yes, i said that the costs would make it financially unfeasible. Which they would.
Last time I checked, Wales and Scotland were part of the United Kingdom
Nobody moaned about Wrexham in the conference, or the 87 years they spent in the football league
People spouting on about "why don't we have Milan, Lyon, Bayern Munich as well" are talking absolute brick
This is Scotland we're talking about. Saudi Sportswashing Machine is 3 times closer to Edinburgh, than it is to London.
So what?
London is far closer to Paris than it is to Glasgow. Should we invite PSG into the Premier League?
Remember that, as far as football is concerned, the UK doesn't exist.
