Eric Dier

..If.....

He's been competent, yes. But what makes you think he can be the player we were crying out for last season? In fact, whilst he has been very good/competent we still haven't won a game yet this season - including one where we let a 2 goal lead slip in five minutes. I think it's way too soon to hail him as our in-house answer to Schneiderlin or Wanyama. In fact, i think it's being done out of desperation and hope really.

It's interesting reading back through this thread

I wasn't initially impressed with Dier's game in midfield but he's been great and I love him, as I do all our players.

However, if rumours are true that Manure are looking to offload Schniederlin, I do think we should be in for him. Two from Schniederlin, Dier and Dembele for next season and we will be looking good to get our goals against stat even lower.

I hadn't heard that rumour but I'd take him. Poch knows and likes him too more importantly. Besides he might want to play in the CL next season ;)

Schniederlin can fudge off! He's damanaged goods now, esp in terms of wages.
Agree with the sentiment about another player to perform the Dier-Dembele role though, but i think there'll be cheaper options out there imo

Maybe not damaged goods. Maybe a man with increased awareness about where the grass is actually greener compared to where it may initially appear to be.

Dier has been a brilliant acquisition and player for us.

To think (re point about this thread), most people didn't think he would last as a DM until December, now most people would probably think we would be mad to put him back to CB.

Well done to Poch, but also well done to Dier for taking the opportunity to own the spot.

And he has to do this

Not really paid attention to Schneiderlin at Man U. I take it he's not had a good season?

Poch would want him if available. Agree, wages may now be a problem.

Buy a first-team player?

Off *them*?

D'you know how many counter-offers they'd make that include stupid things like first-refusal clauses on Alli, Kane, Lloris, Toby, Edwards, Poch, John McDermott, the golden badger, the sliding NFL pitch, the training ground, Chirpy, Charlotte Lade, Spurs TV, the *lot*?

No, I'm afraid that not selling out best players to them also means not doing *any* business with them whatsoever, lest they start shoving their odious money in our face and asking for Kane or Alli in return. It's been that way with most of our on-pitch rivals for a while now. When's the last time we signed a first team player from United, Chelsea, City et al?

Agree. We shouldn't worry about MS anymore. L'arse will take him to join their French Foreign Legion. That is more concerning as they need him more and he would improve them.

In theory we could use their rumoured interest in Kane/Alli to our favour without tieing ourselves in to anything concrete

Hopefully by the season's end, we're CL and at best they're EL. Never before has this happened during the PL years and with the extra TV revenue, it's a whole new ball game.

If after sounding MS's agents, it's worth proceeding with an enquiry, where's the harm? If them clams come back at us as you say, we can counter with our own list, Martial included :).

Or. if Daniel Levy wants to offer them one of his 'gentlman agreements' :D on our players to get MS, that's fine with me as does him telling them to go fudge themselves!

In a significant advantage for Tottenham, they will have Eric Dier with them at Anfield. Dier's North London derby booking was his ninth of the season, and a yellow card against either Aston Villa or Bournemouth would have triggered an automatic suspension.

The amnesty point kicks in before Spurs return to the pitch.

Dier was banned for the reverse fixture, Jurgen Klopp's first in charge of Liverpool, after collecting five yellow cards in his first eight games.

That he has only been booked four times in the following 21 matches speaks to his rapid growth as a defensive midfielder. Dier has been crucial to Tottenham's league-leading defence this season, but he has managed to thrive in the role of midfield enforcer without indulging in over-the-top conduct.

Liverpool have scored 14 goals in their last four games, and so Dier's ability to play with total freedom is a tremendous advantage.

Dier was one of the players to benefit from Pochettino's decision to rest his key players through the Dortmund tie. Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Mousa Dembele also were rotated out of the side for the mid-week fixtures, and the true benefit of those decisions may not be immediate.

With those players likely to feature in each of the remaining seven matches of the season, the effect of the time off against Dortmund may yet be felt.

Eric Dier heads into clashes with Liverpool and Manchester United knowing a single yellow card will rule him out of two key Tottenham clashes.

The White Hart Lane side are looking to make history and clinch their first Premier League title and they head to Anfield today looking to close the gap on leaders Leicester.

Dier will once again line up in their starting line-up having been a crucial cog for Spurs so far this season but he knows he will be walking a disciplinary tightrope against the Reds and then Manchester United.

Having been booked nine times this season Dier knows a single booking in those two games will mean he is forced to serve a two-match suspension in the coming weeks.

The second Sunday in April (10th) is the cut off point for the 10 yellow cards and Dier is joined by Jonjo Shelvey, Erik Pieters, Emre Can and Claudio Yacob on the nine-card list.
