Middle Eastern outfit eye Adebayor as their marquee summer signing.
It doesn’t take a genius or an “ITK” to know Spurs want rid of Emmanuel Adebayor this summer. The 31-year-old striker didn’t start a match after November last season and his £100k per wages and weighty personal baggage are a burden on the club. However, finding a taker for Adebayor is easier said than done, with the Togolese reportedly keen to stay in London and maintain his monstrous salary.

Worse, reliable Telegraph journalist Jason Burt said recently he believes Adebayor will not leave Spurs until the full amount of his contract, which still has one year to run, is paid up.
In short, if Spurs want rid of Adebayor, Daniel Levy needs to either pay him to push off or find a very, very rich club willing to take him on…
Step forward Dubai-based club Al Ahli. According to
Gulf News, Adebayor is on the radar of the mega-rich Middle Eastern outfit. Al Ahli want to sign a marquee player this summer but their move for Brazilian star Luis Adriano fell through earlier this week, and he’s joined AC Milan.
The club’s president, Abdullah Al Naboodah, said he was hopeful of a big signing soon, even as “early as within this week”.
“We can’t afford to waste time. We do not have the time. We need a striker as soon as possible,” Al Naboodah told Gulf News.
“Yes, I’ve heard that he [Luis Adriano] has agreed to sign for Milan,” he added.
I’ve absolutely no idea how reliable Gulf News’ information is, but if the website is getting direct quotes from a club president, it’s fair to say it’s not small time.
Al Ahli have lots of cash and they sound desperate for a big name striker – and quickly. If they decide to pursue Adebayor, it would allow Spurs to receive a decent transfer fee, which could go towards paying off the forward’s contract, and see Adebayor significantly improve his salary. Everyone’s a winner (especially Adebayor).
However, Adebayor has reportedly rejected a move to the Middle East before, so there’s no guarantee he’d fancy semi-retirement in Dubai, even if it means pocketing a shedload of cash.
This is certainly a rumour worth keeping an eye on but I suspect Adebayor will not budge until Spurs give him exactly what he wants, specifically loads and loads of money and the chance to continue his career at another Premier League club. *sigh*
Some will call him greedy and a mercenary but arguably he’s just trying to get the best possible deal for himself, something Levy is routinely lauded for.
