Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

Only one of these useless clams left now

Embarrassing.

His wages must be worth two or three decent players. Yet if he's fit and head is sorted, he could be a good sub and cup player. He could play a crucial role, if we can not sell him.

Getting rid of Ade will be like having a new signing. Despite his good performances and what he is capable of I can't wait to see the back of him. A winning club cannot have players like him brining bad vibes to the place.

To Jordinho,

Please , please , please. When we do finally get rid of this clam, can you at least leave the thread unlocked for the duration of our celebrations? 10 pages should cover it or just give it a fortnight, maybe a month :)

Maybe a whole new celebration thread? ;)

I just want to see the back of him and this as soon as possible.

Could it be because of this?

Rumour mill links Adebayor with Al Ahli
Rumour mills hint at Adebayor being pursued by the Red Knights

Dubai: The President of Al Ahli Club has admitted that the club will have to come up with a marquee signing soon as the Red Knights’ approach to lure Brazilian star Luis Adriano fell through earlier this week.

Abdullah Al Naboodah, President, Al Ahli said that he was hopeful of a big signing soon, even as “early as within this week”.

“We can’t afford to waste time. We do not have the time. We need a striker as soon as possible,” Al Naboodah told Gulf News during the road cycle races held as part of the Third Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports late on Friday.

“Yes, I’ve heard that he [Luis Adriano] has agreed to sign for Milan,” Al Naboodah said in answer to a query.

The Red Knights’ president had announced last week via Twitter that all formalities had been completed in bringing the former Shakhtar Donestsk star to the Al Ghusais club this season. However, it was announced on Friday that the Brazilian player born in Porto Alegre had agreed to a £5.7 million (Dh32.6 million) salary while joining AC Milan.

Adriano leaves the Ukrainian side as the club’s all-time leading goalscorer with 129 goals, including nine in last season’s Uefa Champions League. Only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar have managed more goals in Europe’s elite club competition last year with 10 apiece.

“We tried our best to get his signature, but did not succeed. We need to move on now. For certain, we need a striker and we need to finish all these formalities as soon as we can,” Al Naboodah said. “We should be having some sort of news in the next few days,” he added.

With the Adriano deal falling through, the buzz is that former Togo and Tottenham Hotspur star Emmanuel Adebayor is now being wooed by Al Ahli.

Coach Cosmin Olaroiu is all set to return later this week before players start reporting for pre-season medical checks on July 10. The team will depart for a summer training camp in France after the Eid break.

Al Ahli’s first major assignment will be their Asian Champions League quarter-final away against Naft of Iran on August 26 and the return leg at home on September 16. Al Ahli have already released Luiz Jimenez to cross-city neighbours Al Nasr, while retaining South Korean Kwon Kyung-won and Brazilian Everton Ribeiro along with the injured Jociel da Silva.

Another one...

Middle Eastern outfit eye Adebayor as their marquee summer signing.

It doesn’t take a genius or an “ITK” to know Spurs want rid of Emmanuel Adebayor this summer. The 31-year-old striker didn’t start a match after November last season and his £100k per wages and weighty personal baggage are a burden on the club. However, finding a taker for Adebayor is easier said than done, with the Togolese reportedly keen to stay in London and maintain his monstrous salary.

Worse, reliable Telegraph journalist Jason Burt said recently he believes Adebayor will not leave Spurs until the full amount of his contract, which still has one year to run, is paid up.

In short, if Spurs want rid of Adebayor, Daniel Levy needs to either pay him to push off or find a very, very rich club willing to take him on…

Step forward Dubai-based club Al Ahli. According to Gulf News, Adebayor is on the radar of the mega-rich Middle Eastern outfit. Al Ahli want to sign a marquee player this summer but their move for Brazilian star Luis Adriano fell through earlier this week, and he’s joined AC Milan.

The club’s president, Abdullah Al Naboodah, said he was hopeful of a big signing soon, even as “early as within this week”.

“We can’t afford to waste time. We do not have the time. We need a striker as soon as possible,” Al Naboodah told Gulf News.

“Yes, I’ve heard that he [Luis Adriano] has agreed to sign for Milan,” he added.

I’ve absolutely no idea how reliable Gulf News’ information is, but if the website is getting direct quotes from a club president, it’s fair to say it’s not small time.

Al Ahli have lots of cash and they sound desperate for a big name striker – and quickly. If they decide to pursue Adebayor, it would allow Spurs to receive a decent transfer fee, which could go towards paying off the forward’s contract, and see Adebayor significantly improve his salary. Everyone’s a winner (especially Adebayor).

However, Adebayor has reportedly rejected a move to the Middle East before, so there’s no guarantee he’d fancy semi-retirement in Dubai, even if it means pocketing a shedload of cash.

This is certainly a rumour worth keeping an eye on but I suspect Adebayor will not budge until Spurs give him exactly what he wants, specifically loads and loads of money and the chance to continue his career at another Premier League club. *sigh*

Some will call him greedy and a mercenary but arguably he’s just trying to get the best possible deal for himself, something Levy is routinely lauded for.

Hope springs eternal.....

Sherwood prefers Adebayor to Austin;

Report: Tottenham striker Adebayor, not Austin, is Sherwood's top target

Birmingham Mail reporter Gregg Evans says that Charlie Austin isn't on Tim Sherwood's radar.

Just minutes ago, I wrote about reports saying that Aston Villa were planning on launching a £15 million bid for QPR and England striker Charlie Austin. It was a move that made plenty of sense, but as I noted, we had just the one report saying that. Take it for what you will, etc. And now we've got a pretty compelling piece of evidence saying that the report was rubbish. Gregg Evans, of the Birmingham Mail, is saying that Austin "is not under consideration."

Alright then. Since taking over full-time Aston Villa reporting duties from Mat Kendrick, Evans has been the best journalist covering the club. His work over the past week while reporting from Portugal was stellar, and he was on top of every development the team had. If he says Sherwood isn't after Austin, I believe him.

Now, of course, he could be wrong. He hasn't been a flawless reporter, after all, but who is? I sort of hope he's wrong, actually, as I think Austin would be a really good fit at Villa. The £15 million reported by the Mirror strikes me as more than fair, and it's money that Villa could easily afford to pay for a good striker. In fact, if there is one position where Villa should cut no corners, it's up front.

In his article, Evans mentions that Tottenham Hotspur's Emmanuel Adebayor is currently Sherwood's top target, but wage demands are holding that deal up. And then there was this amazing quote from Sherwood that I actually believe is more than just posturing: "I have been contacted by a lot of those teams over Europe and offered us some really attractive younger players because they know I am a manager who will give them an opportunity to play."

I mean, if there is one thing that we know for certain Sherwood is good at, it's developing youth. So that would make sense.

Regardless, it seems like things will come to a head in the striker search sooner rather than later, and that can only be a good thing with Christian Benteke almost gone.

I don't mind him going, but would rather to one of these Middle Eastern teams or anywhere else abroad. Say what you want about him, he would 100% come back to haunt us....
