Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

I don't see how you come to the conclusion of taking the ****, seriously I don't.

First Season:

17 goals in 33

Second Season:

5 in 25

Third Season:

11 in 21

This season:

2 in 10

Now I grant the second season was poor, but then I look at Lukaku who is 30m of player and his record this season is shocking, I also take into account 3 managers in that period and when a manger (who again is hated) in Sherwood taps into his strengths he scores goals again. Two seasons of a goal a game and one poor season isn't taking the **** for me or by any stretch and I don't need opinion against fact, that's like arguing on what's the larger number 5 or 20.

In the number of games, you really need to include the ones missed by his own choice - it's his fault he didn't score in them after all.

For reference, that's pretty much all early stage UEFA away games, Feb 13, Aug 13, Dec/Jan 14.

Yeah, the s*** Ade gets is totally unjustified. It's mainly bourne out of commentators and pundits as well. People hear that he is lazy and can't be a**ed and then they just mindlessly quote this whenever he makes a mistake. Meanwhile, certain other players get away with blue murder.

I happen to think that Ade did just as well as anyone else against Sheffield Utd for example, but he gets singled out for abuse.

The guy clearly has issues off the pitch. Now if it continues to affect his on-pitch performances, then we would do right for both parties to move him on, fresh start etc, but to say Ade hasn't massively contributed to Spurs while he was here is just plain wrong.

Infact, if it wasn't for his goals last season, things could have got pretty brutal for us truth be told.

What you've posted says it all, 2 good solid seasons, 1 poor one out of the full seasons he's had, yet you read what fans think of him and you'd be forgiven for thinking he was a donkey of Rasiak proportions.

Seriously the personal abuse levelled at him is shocking, particularly when other players who have more of a case to answer in terms of loyalty, work-rate, application etc get away with barely a peep.

utter b0llocks. I use my eyes.. every home game, when he posts pictures on his social media, when he talks to the press... and when he is nowhere to be seen.

Name and shame please.

*******s take Ade's goals out last season and we would have finished 7th with 59 points instead of 6th with 69 points. And thats assuming someone else wouldnt have scored from the same chances.

I think you could put a 5 point swing either way on that figure for doubt, for and against the player, but using your own stat, you talk like 10 points is nothing???

As I said earlier its best for both parties if he moves on, however the fact that he once played for the **** is enough for some fans to **** him off, the same happened to Gallas.

Yeh that is an extreme claim, but I was at the game when Sherwood took over and its hard to argue that Adebayor wasn't a BIG factor in the change in a good period

Ade was the reason for Sherwood's success, no argument there at all. And his first season was very good for us.

My personal belief (and it has nothing to do with the alternates/options), is (and you can go back to start of season in this thread), he's not reliable over any extended period of time, the fact that his contribution can be 1:2 for a period/season, followed by 1:5 for period/season highlights it, and I suspect you can do that for the vast majority of his career.

Is he the best striker (on form) at the club? = yes
Can we depend on him at any point = no

Add the baggage, fact that he is divisive for the fanbase (something we really don't need now, as we finally seem to be getting over that), suggest we try to leverage him for as long as we have him left, but the plan should be to move him (and Soldado) on by summer for latest and get players we can rely on, build a team around.

And there we have Groundhog Day.

i honestly think they brought him back with the thinking that he would do the same as above during January (three cup games in a row) and hope that some mentalist would come in and give us a transfer fee before the window shut.

I do not disagree with you about the need to move him on but with his chequered past coupled with his £100K a week wage we are finding out that is easier said than done.

I also think it is pitiful that our manager has to plead with Fans not to boo Ade. They may claim they have the right to do so but all they are doing is displaying their complex stupidity. How the feck does booing Ade as he comes on the pitch help him individually or our team as a whole?

It doesn't .. no question.

But also highlights the decisions Poch has/needs to make.

Poch inherited a very divided & discontented fanbase (not his fault), due to HR/AVB/TS eras, he has made some progress over the last couple of month to healing that, with our results and with the advent of players fans like/identify with like Kane/Mason, plus Lloris (as kind of our one claim to world class).

Player like Ade (and Kaboul) can contribute to our results, but they also can cause discontent (see this thread), his call really has to be

Is it worth it to have them in the squad? (and I don't have an answer)

But they cause discontent without even contributing to the thread, so that suggests its us not them. We know nothing about the players just what we choose to make up in our heads, this thread 100% backs that up because we all have the same evidence at hand yet there are difference of views. But that difference of views shouldn't extend to booing a player and its also silly to say "the booing proves that Poch needs to make a decision" because ultimately he made his decision in the week by picking him, we didn't back Ade or the manager and it showed, and that's the shame

Well on the face of it seems Levy will not bring in a new striker until he gets rid of one so we have to keep Ade onside. Imagine the disaster if Kane pulls a hamstring and is out for the next 6 weeks or something worse and is out for the season?

Well said. I lost faith in Ade a long time ago and I was calling for Kane to start when many others were saying he was not ready, but at no time have I booed him. Instead, I was hoping he would prove me wrong and start playing again

Base on the number of minutes he has played this season 2 goals is a shocking return, but I still would not boo him

Townsend said:

“Emmanuel played well and hopefully he can get another run out on Saturday and hopefully get a goal. He’s a fantastic player. He worked hard and hopefully the fans can see that.

“That’s all we can judge him on. If he plays on Saturday I know he’ll work extremely hard again.

“The manager’s picked him to start because in training he’s worked hard and got his head down and showed he deserves to be in the squad. He’s got himself fit, worked extremely hard and he got his reward with a start.

“He’s a funny character: always joking, always dancing. He’s a great guy to have around. He’s a fantastic character.

“He always makes us laugh, whether he’s playing or not playing. He’s always making jokes around the changing room and he’s a great player to have.”

Well, this for me is good to hear and good for the team. But reading it you wonder if this will not only be unwelcomed by some, but may also be construed as another reason to hate on Townsend? Lets hope not.

Haters are always gonna hate. In our last 3 matches Townsend was one of the better players but some people will either not see that or refuse to acknowledge it

OR they just have a differing opinion to you on how he played?...

fwiw i think he played well in the Burnley game - probably the best player on the pitch and in the other two games he was ineffective, hard working but nothing special by any stretch - Crystal Palace was very poor (but so was the rest of the team)
