Elon Musk buys twitter

A very un-twitter-like response ;).

One of the big issues i have with social media, including on here, is that it's just so difficult to put across a reasonable point without it sounding a rant or an excuse for an argument.
I'm always looking for a good discussion on areas that I'm ignorant, but it comes across as confrontational when it really isn't supposed to be.
Or maybe that's just my poor communication skills.
So to keep my anxiety levels down i just bow out gracefully if I think its going down the wrong way.

It must be your Scottish accent!
Honestly, I don't think your posts come across the way you are describing them above at all.

Yeah that’s just any form of chatting online, it’s difficult to convey your exact emotions and tone - I think that’s why I use emojis so much when texting etc:D I find that helps a little.

But you never really know someone’s true personality unless face to face - I always remember @thfcsteff being a flamboyant poster, but when I first heard the podcast I was not expecting him to sound anything like that for some reason! Same for @milo too, one of the great things about the podcast is getting a true feel what these guys are really like. I’ve no doubt if we were all in a room together we’d get on no problem o_O…..

It's one of the reasons why I am posting less, I find it easier to express myself on the pod.

We could facilitate a face to face chat between people on here, using the studio we use for the pod, if people were interested. It would be easy enough to set up.

Och aye the noo!
Well I'm glad about that, as @harr1984 says its difficult to know when you're striking the correct tone.
I love chatting with people, hearing their view points, experiences, interests and philosophies, generally broadening my horizons.

Online it appears to come across badly, which doesn't surprise me as there's a lot of toxicity about. Never had a large online presence but now it's limited to this site and that's it.

Must say your posts are missed - you have a habit of pointing out things I never notice:D But appreciate you’re living the dream on the pod now.

And that is an interesting concept, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some take you up on that on here….

That's very kind. The pod takes up quite a lot of time.

Maybe we could do a Christmas GG online meet-up

text lacks a whole heap of communication that happens through body language and intenation (spelling). So people read it back through their own prism of prejudice… also people are Cûnts

Face to face or at least verbally you can add time and emotion
It’s why I’m obsessed at work on at least getting colleagues cameras in so I can see if they are engaged
In forums but their very nature they are anonymous and a place to express or hide depending in your view
I know football wise that after a defeat certain posters will re-appear to gripe and complain. It’s their hunting ground to vent and it’s part of its function
Talking on a pod is a different variety of the same theme, expressing an opinion but in a more directed way again by its nature of being topic lead
It all works as long as people aren’t being dingdongs

I wonder what would happen if he just switched Twitter off? It would be an interesting experiment to see just how many days people freak out for before they just all find a new platform.

Are people getting the knickers in a twist over nothing here slightly? I mean, I am banned from twitter for calling someone a cnut, so I don't go on anymore, but has it changed at all for people to cry so much a out it having changed so much under Musk?

It’s not noticeably changed much yet for me.

But whatever he’s trying to do, it seems inevitable it’s going to blow up and go offline soon.

I really like Twitter, so I am sorry to see what he is doing to it.

It is going to be bloody horrible on there during the WC with hardly any moderators working for Twitter now. Racist abuse will be off the scale

I have noticed in the last couple of days, every 3rd tweet is either an advert or some random account for me to follow

Did you not explain it’s a term of endearment in London?

Yes I have noticed that. There are loads more of the 'promoted' tweets now.

I've been blocking all promoted content for ages. His plan is to promote tweets from paying accounts and suppress everything else. The three biggest categories of Twitter Blue subscribers so far are right-wing politics, crypto and porn, it's going to be unusable.
