Elon Musk buys twitter

Vote ended for him leaving.

Assuming he keeps his word he will have to find someone else. After saying that no one will want the job that can actually keep twitter alive.

Effective marketing stunt if nothing else.

He's never boring I'll give him that. An interesting lesson in the benefits of humility. You think you're invincible, you've had some amazing success and think everything you touch will turn to gold. With overconfidence, you spunk billions on a loss-making enterprise, and wipe out billions from Tesla because of your conduct. Turning around Twitter to become profitable was always going to upset people, and it clearly does need a shake up. But what a fuk up from Musk!

Yeah sending ultra rich macho dingdongs into space on ego trips is great for the planet and civilisation.
Hey everybody give up fossil fuel and go electric, sorry, got to go i have a rocket to fire.
Nevermind sending a junk car into orbit just because he can, and he go fudging applauded for it.

there is so much context required for Musk regarding SpaceX and Tesla too, they are massive companies with a lot of smart people, Tesla was established before he bought in, rockets and cars are products, the value proposition is binary, they work or not, Twitter is a global communication service, working is nuanced depending on the person you ask

software is important to all three businesses, but when you control the hardware the software has manageable scope, the hardware twitter runs on is people

While I appreciate Tyson and his efforts to spread scientific knowledge he definitely irks me at times.

Building up on this cult of personality, individuals as the inventors of the future, the geniuses leading is forward narrative. It's not only at best utterly lacking nuance, I think it's rather unhealthy too.

He didn't make electric cars normal. He played a, rather small, part in making that happen.

Calls for nuance while lacking nuance yourself while speaking to an audience that's still partly just flat out fanboys. Great job.

Musk’s takeover of twitter has been a disaster by any measure and he’s made a complete tit of himself in recent months/years. However that doesn’t mean he hasn’t done good things as DeGrasse Tyson pointed out. I’ve always liked people that don’t just go with the flow and it’s low hanging fruit to mock Musk at the moment, not saying he doesn’t deserve it btw, he has brought this on himself. People don’t listen to the content people come out with these days, they just look at who says it as evidenced by the predictable response to Tyson’s tweet “he’s a clam”. People who do that are part of the problem IMO.

Musk should have been mocked years ago "before it was cool". Still well deserving of mockery now that he himself has made him low hanging fruit imo.

Some people may do what you describe. That's not a good thing. Some people may also just know exactly what they're talking about because they've repeatedly read what that person has said and choose to respond in short form at the latest instance. The two can be difficult to distinguish.

Can't help but agree with alot of this, judgement is often on who says what and not what is said, there is also a trend to take away their achievements with nit picking which would not be applied to others they are trying to praise. I was one of the first on this thread to question Musks intention in buying twitter and call him weird, but that does not mean I feel the need to lie about him or try and disprove some of the good he has done, nor does praising some of his actions make a person his greatest fan.

For example I read on here that he had no interest in conservation of the planet because his ambitious plans for Mars terraforming, I mean thats just rubbish TBH, he has done alot more than most to highlight whats needed for this planet whilst pushing on with other projects, they can be compatible thoughts.

All that said, Musk has come out with some pretty unhinged stuff recently

If it recovers or even goes above what it was at the start of year, would you give him equal praise to the vilification you pour out at this point?
Nope. The share price of Tesla is incidental. He deserves all the scorn he is receiving now.

At first I thought he was just trying to sink twitter, and if that had been the case then at least he would have been doing it rather effectively. But his search for new investors probably indicates that he is doing the opposite, so what we are likely witnessing is just incompetence. This will be the example they use to teach about Dunning-Kruger.

Yep. He says a lot of crazy things and he’s like Trump in the sense that he just tweets whatever comes to his mind at the time. He’s also impulsive, went on Joe Rogan’s podcast and got stoned, the share price of Tesla tanked shortly after. Nothing illegal in what he did but probably not the wisest thing to do publicly when you run a very well-known company. He’s also clearly very bright and could have made money in any number of ways. No one forced him to run a company that makes electric cars or reusable space rockets. I’m amazed no one has pulled him aside and told him to take a backseat and stay out of the limelight for a bit as he’s not doing himself any favours.
