Eberechi Eze

We’ll see what happens.

I do laugh at the Levy never gets it done narrative though, he got Romero done, VDV, Verts, Toby, Davids, the other VDV, Sissoko, Lamela, Modric, Son, not to mention Bale, the greatest player we’ve ever had, twice.

I’m sure others could name a load more world class players over the last 20 years we have had.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Even Liverpool and City fans are constantly moaning about absolutely everything, even though they have won so much silverware these past couple of decades it begs belief. Football fans are fickle and will never be happy for long. We always want more more more, better better better.

It's okay to criticise, of course, but have some perspective. We just won a major European trophy, and as you say here, it's not like we never get our man.

You can bet the same people that want to lynch Levy now for not getting Eze, would want to Lynch him later if Eze didn't turn out as they hoped.

City didn't get Kane, Van Dijk or Ronaldo.

Liverpool didn't get Caicedo, Bellingham or Zubimendi.

That's how football transfers go. The hysteria over transfers in this day and age is nuts. It seems to take precedence over actual results at times.

Also, maybe we’ll be better without a 10, play a 442 or 532, with Kudus off Richi, that caused no end of trouble to the European champions.

Hmmm. I think we’re a long way from being able to rely on Richi for anything other than missing a fair chunk of the season through injury. Like everyone else, I hope that this is his year…but I don’t think we should be putting our eggs in his basket.

But after last Saturday, surely "he is like a new signing"!!
:grinning:

I hope Richy does very well for us, of course, but the best and most ambitious teams will give him as much support to keep him healthy but also have back-up plans for if/when he breaks down again...let's see...

I don’t think we’ll be getting in another striker unless one leaves. Solanke will be first choice. If Richarlison goes down Tel will be used, if we wanted to play 2 up top Kudus did well there against PSG.

But I get your overall point. Any game you’re pretty expecting him to go down injured.

Indeed, Sky and then social media have certainly turned transfer windows into silly season!

Of course all clubs fail at some point in their main target, the question is who do we get when we don't get our main target? We ended up having to settle for Timo Werner on loan not once but twice FFS, you can't tell me Ange really wanted that :D

Maddison has been out for weeks, Kulu has been know about for much longer. Dress it up any way, this problem should have been rectified by now. But hopefully we can all be thankful for some form of quality being delivered come the end of the window....

I think that's fair comment. It's what we do now that counts. I still maintain that you can't go and spend 60 or 70 million to replace an injury like Maddison that quickly (it's been about 2 weeks I think?).

I'm willing to wait for the window to close before judging it. I'm delighted with Kudos and Palhinha - think they are great additions while Tel and Danso do bolster the squad. But we do need more and the club have got to do something beyond signing raw potential. Let's see if it happens - the success or failure of the window doesn't hinge on Eze for me.

There's a lot of hysteria in the wider Spurs and football world (social media) but on here I don't think there's much. There's your usual Levy-outers but other than that I think it's people extremely frustrated that we won a European cup, sacked the manager because the chairman is aiming to compete in every competition and yet we can all very clearly see we do not have the squad to do that.

I think the hysteria on this one is purely because he's going to Arsenal, had it been any other team that outbid us nothing would have been said (or at least not as much)
The press are also deliberately forgetting that Arsenal had actually bid for him prior to us.

100% - it exacerbates it a lot. But Change for Tottenham and all that lot were already planning protests so I think there was already plenty of hysteria out there.

Surely we would know that mgw, Eze and savinho were going to be complicated deals that might not work out and have alternatives in mind and at least initiated talks with other clubs.
Is Lange not supposed to be a multiple mover?
We were unlucky with mgw in my opinion, savinho is dependant how city get on with their transfers, could well still happen, and tbh we should have dropped our interest in Eze when it became clear that heels were being dragged.
We are not very good at reading a room and waste time on targets that don't look like going through.
Move on ffs.

You don't get the point do you? Nobody is busting a fuse because we didn't get a player... it's part and parcel of football as you have illustrated. Only difference is that those two teams made an offer, it was not accepted and a few days later moved onto other targets - and got them. All you need to do is look at their recruitment this summer... imaginative, early and at decent prices. No drama; no daily will he/won't he.

The issue that many have is that we f***** around for weeks trying to penny pinch and then either end up paying as much as the initial fee or getting gazumped in the process and by the time this happens we would be desperate and running our time. We were apparently happy to pay 60M + 7M, which is practically the same as the release clause that Eze had.... when we knew from multiple reports that he would go to the Arse if he had the opportunity and we gave them the chance.
