Dominic Solanke

I am just astounded as to how many people on this forum did not want him believing he was not good enough.

I was wrong as I had my doubts. I saw the statistic that he had the most poor first touches of any player in the Premier League last season. That coupled with the fee meant that I wasn’t sure. But then I spent more time looking at it all and realised that I was wrong. And as he’s one of us, I’ll suppport him as loudly as is possible and actually believe that we did well in bringing him in.

Is that true ?
I never saw that stat
Certainly for us his first touch and been brilliant and his hold up play has been top drawer

He really could be a very very decent player for us
Work rate is incredible as is his attitude, holds the ball up so well and scores proper centre forward goals

I like him. He presses well and has good poacher instincts because he is in the right place to anticipate mistakes. Not Kane obviously but pretty good nonetheless and I think will do well for us if the fans give him a chance. His price tag is not his fault.

I've been impressed, he is better than I expected and is doing really well for us.
It's a great benefit that he is Prem proven, e.g. going to Old Trafford tomorrow is not some new adventure to admire, it is just another game at a ground he has played at before.

Perhaps you should trust the data analysis the club has done on a player a little more than a random isoltated stat from Twitter.....

That’s why I took more time to look into the signing of him and then appreciated it and fully support him. But come on, not like every signing that we make is a perfect fit or a perfect player for the system, is it?!

Id say our scouting has been as good as you could hope for since Paratici. Personally im at the stage where if the scouting department and manager are happy with a player identified I trust it over anything twitter says or even my own opinion if I k ow the player.

With Solanke there were other stats out there which suggested he was a great fit for us, the best presser in the league etc before you even consider the fact he's just scored a load of goals. It surprised me the number of people who had doubts, seemed pretty obvious just from the old fashioned 'eye test' that he was a good fit for us....

Great poachers goal.

But I loved how he pressed and took their cb’s out of the game.

That’s how you keep clean sheets in this league, defend from the front.

Three things for me

- His pressing is fudging top level for a CF
- His physicality is huge, having him and Deki to defend against all game must be a fudging mare
- Both of his last goals is 100% down to anticipation, both you see him start running before anyone else.

Seeing stuff like that can create doubts when we saw the frustration last season when Richarlison mis controlled the ball. But I do trust Solanke and he has a lot more to his game which should be appreciated.
A lot of reasons why a stat like that should be analysed in context and not as a standalone thing.

As is, not looking at stats, his first touch looks like one of his real strengths.
