Djed Spence

We're in a title fight this season, every point matters, we can fudge around in the cups, but it'll be full gas in the league and the CL.

I'd love to see him make the team, because it would mean he was performing, but you don't blood potential in a win now window.

I would agree if the so called trusted few were pulling up trees, would have lost absolutely nothing with him starting last night considering the 1-10 team performance

What did he do? In one thread we've got people saying PEH is all effort and no skill, and here at least Spence showed some effort.

I am not even saying he has to start but to make 4 changes on 82 minutes and then to bring on Spence at 89 minutes on the face of it looks a dingdongish move, especially when you consider on Saturday he came on so late he did not even touch the ball. I mean seriously what point was Conte trying to make yesterday.

Sure I get it, it is a team game and not all about Spence, but considering how brick we were why wait until 89 minutes, WTF?

He made 3 changes on 82 minutes, Spence came on with Skipp on 89.

So would it have been preferable to not bring him on at all? First change or nothing? I don't get the complaint, he's gone from not getting on at all, to getting on for a bit at the end, seems like progression to me.

I remember him being run off the ball in the attacking third, and clearing his own lines without panic, but that was about it yesterday.

Didn't see much but physique, pace and basic football was ok. Moura - Spence looks like a partnership with pace. Something we need.

tough for him as he came on in a game his team had long since mentally given up on

I didn't see anything that made me think he should suddenly start the next game

It was also just a 5 minute cameo in a game the players had long given up on, not much you can do in that, a bit pointless really.

We need far more from the RWB position than Royal and Doherty have offered, I’m hoping Spence gets a start sooner rather than later but I’m not holding my breath unfortunately.

Aka Kyle Walker at the start.
Remember most people thought Kyle Naughton would go on to be the better player because he knew how to defend and Walker more of an athlete than a top level footballer

We don’t need moura for pace
Pace is great but you need to keep the ball too and discipline. He wanders everywhere in tend and way we have seen Richarlisons on the right… it’s not effective

He came on in the 89th minute. How anyone can make any definitive judgement on his performance is beyond me. He did as much wrong (he was all over the place when they outnumbered us on the right at one point) as he did right.

I seriously think people are building this lad up and will be disappointed when he gets a run because he can't live up to expectations. He'll be a good player for us but he won't come into the side and tear up trees. Doherty is the best option there at the moment.

In the man U game we had no pace and could not hold on to the ball meaningfully either. Especially with Perisic on we need pace to come from somewhere for some unpredictability and threat.

Agree mostly.

I still favour Royal myself.

There is a huge difference between being excited to see what a young talent can do and placing expectation on him, there is also alot of this twinged with "He cannot be worse than what we are showing" which is not exactly piling on the pressure TBH. As I have said a few times, in some of the games we seem to have played safe and been poor we would have lost absolutely nothing in giving this lad more time and seeing what he can do.
