Davinson Sanchez

Yep very good tonight. I'm not ready to write him off just as some are because for a center back he is still in the formative years. He not go ont ot be top class but it is too early to tell yet IMO.

i do agree, he may not have progressed as much as we would have liked but he is still young for a established CB and he needs a steady partner and regular games to achieve that.

Agreed. Having Davies there certainly helped him. Davies was almost flawless tonight I thought, probably shaded motm for me, and having a partner who is performing well beside you (insert joke here) is a big help. I would like to see Davies get a run out there against PL opposition to see how he copes.

As for Sanchez, I think his frame could hold a little more muscle. He has room to carry a little more bulk without affecting his speed IMO. Besides that, his decision-making needs to improve if he wants to step up a level, which may come with experience of course. You would hope it would.

Davies is one of those players who just get on and do their job, not flashy in any way but if you watch him he usually plays well. Very underated player by so me fans imo.

He's had a few suspect outings at LB I can recall but in the main, he's been good. Not flashy but steady as you say. And for this reason, I have a feeling Mourinho may use him less frequently as LB and switch him in as a centre half or left of a three. Steady is the main attribute in that position.

None of our options at CB are very appealing. By far the weakest position in our team. Our options are a converted DM who is unproven at CB, an old head who is still head and shoulders above the rest in terms of ability but has no legs, a mistake prone CB who can’t pass or deal with high balls, a left back by trade who can do a job when called upon at CB in certain situations, a very young and raw academy prospect and a new signing who hopefully will step up.

Dier isn't a converted DM. He joined us as a CB was converted into a DM by Poch and now has moved back because injuries have made him slow on the turn.

I agree that CB is our weakest position though and all of our options have flaws. I dream of Tanganga and Rodon forming an instant understanding and being too good to drop.

I must admit I am unaware of his pre-Spurs days and what position he played. Don’t recall him playing much at CB when he first joined us, recall him being played at RB though? Nevertheless, the jury is still out on him at CB even though Jose seems to like him.

After a few minutes he was challenging over by the right back position, in control, looked fine then got nudged off it and suddenly realised he was beaten and was out on the touchline about 25 yards out.
This is typical Sanchez, does 90% of the job but is too easily brushed aside, then realises he has dropped a clanger.
He (and we) got away with that one, but it was typical of his play.
Out on the right touchline you either have to pass it cleanly to a colleague or hack it off the pitch or ANYTHING except allow the attacker to nudge you out of the way and run towards goal.

Looked a lot better tonight, i know the opposition were not up to much but having Davies alongside him ( who is steady and a talker) instead of Toby ( who sad to say has become a shadow of his self) obviously helps him.

I get what you’re saying about Davies and Toby and I don’t disagree. But he’s had Dier next to him who some think is our best CB and has still looked poor so it’s either Sanchez who is part of the problem or not a great endorsement of Dier. Could have given away a penalty tonight but on the whole much better than he has been for a while.

He was played at RB when he was settling in. CB has been a long term position for him.

You aren't wrong. I almost felt we needed two CBs in the window. But let's see what more time under Jose and the addition of Rodon does for our overall structure.

Dier is meh, so far, far more show than actual effect. I think Sanchez edges slightly tbh and Sanchez is faaaar from perfect.

Mourinho is having to make do and mend when it comes to our defensive unit.
Woefully underfunded for a team with supposed ambition.
