Time to cut our losses on him and Dier next summer. We don’t want to be like Arsenal or Man U and just keep around substandard CBs for years and years. We want to be more like Liverpool and grab a great one.
Snodgrass was “clever” against Aurier to win the free kick that ultimately led to the 3rd goal.
Don’t forget Jan and Toby had years of experience together TBF to a rare and unique scale
It’s because he isn’t as a good as themTotally get that, it was a very rare phenom. It was more about feeling secure with the player(s) in position, like Davies at LB - never have any concerns about him performing his primary job well, the other facets of his game maybe need improvement. With Sanchez I haven't had that comfort and he's been here a while now.
It’s because he isn’t as a good as them
TBF Sanchez is as good as most CBS in ten division, but not as good as the very best ones
He is IMO for example no worse than the Everton ones but their pair are playing every game and playing really really well
I don’t think there any better myself, but they have had more games together I believe. Both have Stepped up this season so far and been very impressiveYerri Mina (fair comparison) is better than Sanchez, likewise Keane - stats back that up (not just from this season either). It's not that I don't rate him, but it's like he's perpetually caught in a flux of potential - like a kernal that doesn't quite pop!
I guess it's down to opinions, and I respect yours.
I wouldn't be sad to see Tanganga given a run out at CB alongside Toby. Be interesting to see how Rodon comes in as well - again, looks like he has the tools.

Indeed. Let's see where we are when we can play a pair that includes a player who prefers playing on the right and one who prefers playing on the left..... Dier and Rodon perhaps? Up until now we are shoehorning one of our centre halves over the left when they're not suited to playing there. Of them all Dier is probably the least bad on the left but I'd like to see him playing on his preferred side before judging whether he is good enough to play for a team with our ambitions or not.Indeed, and on top of that they were both great players and were the perfect partnership. I have a feeling that if we as fans try to compere who we play now/ in the future to either of those ( at their best) we are going to be disapointed. Pairings as good as they were do not come along very often.

I think it is quite clear though that our next signing (be it January or the Summer) does need to be another centre half who prefers playing on the left, we can sacrifice Toby or Sanchez to bring them in and then have two for the left, two for the right and third cover from Davies/Tanganga for the left/right position.
Rodon is right footed but has typically played on the left side of the two at the back.I can't dance with any of that, i know there are a few on here who do not rate Dier but i think he is a bacon sandwich, never seen Rodon so not sure what side he is stronger on. I think it may be a mistake to rush Rodon into a regular starter though just yet but who knows he could settle in quickly.
To be honest i can not see Toby being a regular anymore ( at least i hope so) he is not good enough anymore imo and i must say i am dissapointed in the progress of Sanchez and thought he may have pushed on by now ( still fairly young for a CB though) so Jose may still keep him.

I agree that he's quick. He's reasonably good in the tackle too, but a bit rash at times. Can't say the penalty against Manchester United, the free kick early on against West Ham for example came as a surprise. He was terrible yesterday but I think he is normally a decent defender, strong, quick and tackles well. That is probably why we bought him, because he could recover quickly if our high line was breached. Unfortunately he’s lacking a football brain. But with a decent partner beside him, he will be fine.

TBF it’s not unusualI always worry whenever I see this. Not really a ringing endorsement when people say “this player will be fine if you put someone good next to him”
