Davinson Sanchez

.. and made no attempt to jump for it either. On top of that it was Sissoko who conceded the free kick that led to the goal in the first place, clumsily pushing his opponent in the back.

Incidentally that was also much the same sort of territory out on the touchline where we conceded a fk for the Everton goal. Seems Mourinho urgently needs to knock a few thick heads together.
Snodgrass was “clever” against Aurier to win the free kick that ultimately led to the 3rd goal.

He came very close to scoring an OG earlier, stabbing his foot at a cross and only stopped when he got a shout from Hugo.

poor kid - we have no choice but to back him, not many out there better than him, but it's his composure than concerns me

I don't think he plays much for us again ..

- I think Rodon, Tanganga or even Davies will get played if needed

Best to move him on in January and see if we go back in for a top level CB (still a weakness in squad)

not many better than him? Are you being serious? I know that he cost us a lot of money but sometimes it’s best to realise that mistakes were made. It’s the same with Maguire for United. It’s as if they feel a sense of obligation to keep him as their main centre back, simply because of his fee.

It's been 3-4 years, he really hasn't progressed and, despite seemingly having the tools, always looks like an accident waiting to happen. I don't blame him for yesterday but he's been pretty poor consistently for a long time. Maybe if he had a Ledley or someone beside him, he might be better but we don't have that luxury so for me, he's just not good enough. That doesn't leave us in a good spot though. Dier has his limitations, Toby is clearly deteriorating and Tanganga/Rodon are very young.

It's the one area of the pitch where we are weak.

TBF he was played left sided yesterday and neither him or Toby are comfortable on the left which is scary

I’m not basing my view on yesterday. He’s been ropey for a long time and struggles with the basics. He seems incapable of coping with a high ball, his distribution is poor and he always looks like he has a mistake in him.

At his best, he looks like a beast. But at his worst, he looks really awful. And he has more bad games than good. He needs a leader beside him who can carry him a bit and he might improve. We neither have that sort of player or the time to bring him along. I’m sad to say it because I had high hopes for him but he’s just not good enough.

I would play toby and sanchez against lask and then try the partnership of dier and rodon against burnley.

If they work as I suspect, then keep that as the pairing for the league.

Not many in our squad better than him, which is the problem.

I'm not his biggest fan even when on form and I don't want to just pile on with negativity. I struggle to see how he's good enough for us though.

i think Jose realises we have potential issues at CH, hence the new signing, and i dont think that negates going back for Skriniar in jan/summer either.

Out of the three first choices none are really staking a claim and more worryingly none are looking like emerging as a partnership. And we have to be honest Toby,Sanchez,Dier have all been here long enough to know what they are about, they're not new or young, they're all experienced internationals. Tanganga, Rodon, Davies all have a chance here. One of the first choices might well form a good partnerships with one of those 3. Although as individuals we want our defenders to be sound, partnerships at CH, and having an understanding/appreciation, can really elevate the standard of both players.

Sanchez feels to me to be the first as odd one out. He can only play RCB, He doesnt look or feel confident, hes very much concentrating on his own game, when the best defenders have a read on whats going on everywhere. He's still of an age where he will be worth a decent fee. Jose obviously likes Dier more and Toby must be worth having (and hes worth nothing £) as an experienced head (especially with younger CH's in the squad).

Its quite possible that the current 3 first choices wont be come nxt season.

What formation have Wales been playing recently? has Davies been playing with Rodon in a back 3?

Think the question you need to ask, is when you see Sanchez on the team sheet do you feel confident? like when 3-4 seasons ago you see Jan and Toby and say 'no problems, someone is going to have to be good today' I don't ever have that from Sanchez.

He's OK but he never dominates in the way his physique should allow him to, he always seems nervous of making a mistake. I think as the poster above says, if you play him with someone superior (like he did as Ajax) then he can perform ably, but give him responsibility and he's a mistake waiting to happen.

Really thought he was going to play through and become a monster at the back for us, unfortunately he's more shrek than hulk...

Don’t forget Jan and Toby had years of experience together TBF to a rare and unique scale
