Recent reports have linked the Barcelona forward with a move to Tuscany and his representative says that his client would not be averse to a Serie A switch

Tottenham target David Villa could be tempted to join Fiorentina due to the Italian club's "interesting project", according to the Barcelona forward's agent.

Spurs are already in advanced talks with Corinthians about a move for Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, but they have also been linked to the Spaniard as they search for a striker to solve their problems up front.

However reports in Spain have suggested that the Viola are looking to bring the 31-year-old to the Artemio Franchi along with Blaugrana youngster Jonathan Dos Santos.

And while Victor Onate has stressed that there is no concrete interest from the Tuscan side, he is a keen admirer of the club's recent work.

"I think it is excessive to say there is formal interest from Fiorentina but we know the type of interesting project they have in mind," he told Tuttomercatoweb.

"I worked with current Fiorentina technical director Eduardo Macia at Valencia. We are friends and in constant communication. Fiorentina had a good season and their intention is to grow even more.

"David is focused on the Confederations Cup. Leaving a club like Barcelona is not easy and it depends on many factors, including next year’s World Cup, as clearly he wants to approach it as a protagonist.

"If he does leave, we are looking for an important project that will allow him to play at a high level. England or Italy makes no difference, as long as the project is good."

Villa has one year left on his contract at Camp Nou.

And now for something completely different

We all like the shillings but it seems Villa or his agent have that as the priority.

I have absolutely no idea, but will bet my house it's something to do with a billionaire owner and enormous wages.

They've gone the Pompey route, except they went bankrupt, clearing the debts, and restarted as a different club in the 4th tier, somehow skipped Serie C1 and got promoted to Serie A in just two years AND bought back the rights to the name Fiorentina. Their new owner when they reformed in 2002 basically got a big club with a large fanbase for very little. They invested heavily last year with over 20 players brought in, but a lot of it was covered by the money they got for Nastasic.

Soccer Lens reporting we have been given a green light in our attempt to sign David Villa as we now face no serious competition.

Would be great if those rumours are true. I think Villa could be one of the best signings of the season.

Although I'm quite sure he would prefer a central striking role he could also play wide left in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 for us. Would give us a lot of options.

Printer jam at Spurs HQ. Someone tried to print envelopes on the wrong setting, now the repair man has to come out. Just keep David busy for the next few hours.

i think now that Arsenal seem to be signing Higuain that leaves us as the only serious team in for him - it's his last big move most likely and id imagine the chance at playing in the premier league would trump most offers from Italy - he's already won the Champions League so may not be too put off by our participation in the Europa League next year.

This is a high profile league and he is more or less guaranteed first team football all season in a season before the World Cup. Being a bit part player at Barca contributed to him losing his international place for Spain. I am very hopeful this deal will go through

Emirates Marketing Project are preparing to put the skids under Tottenham Hotspur's bid for Barcelona striker David Villa.

The Londoners have been eyeing the 31-year-old for months and it is understood that technical director in charge of player recruitment Franco Baldini will now make a formal move for the player.

But Villa is making life difficult and on top of an £8 million transfer fee, the north London outfit will need to find around £100,000 a week to tempt a player who is currently on £160,000 at the Nou Camp.

Spurs are simply not in that sort of market place as they bid to keep Gareth Bale which would have course make him the club's biggest earner by a considerable distance.

To even consider around £100,000 a week for Villa is not a serious option for chairman Daniel Levy who is one of the most financially astute and toughest negotiators in the game given the new Financial Fair Play rules which come in next season.

City, however, would have no problems offering a deal of around the £100,000 plus transfer fee following the departure of Tevez who was on £200,000.

A source at the Etihad said: "He would be the ideal back up striker to our front two and comes with the advantage of leaving wriggle room within the FFP regulations.

"There's definite interest here so long as Villa's desire to stay at the Nou Camp doesn't see him demanding a weekly wage of the £160,000 he currently earning."

Back up? He won't want that if he wants more playing time to cement his place in the national team.

160k a week at Barca???? we will struggle to match half of that

next

I think we have to factor in the equation that most modern footballers use as a guidance for their careers:

Money > Playing time

A source ? A source that says Villa would be an ideal backup is not in any way remotely connected to the club who would know if they were interested in Villa. Most likely a manc taco hanging around the ground was their source.

Why would they get away with it under FFP and we wouldn't? Are their entirely dodgy sponsorship arrangements going to fly?
