Basically he says Villa's reps have been to our training ground and met with AVB. We're definitely a real possibility but he also thinks Arsenal are his first choice but Villa won't wait around forever as he wants to move early to get a good pre season in with his new club - at this point we're left thinking "well that rules us out then" but he seems to think we can get the deal done relatively quickly. Barca want €14m, Atletico and Liverpool also interested.

We should be all over this. Seriously, if this transfer does not happen because of procrastination by Spurs I'll be gutted. Pay the fee and take a chance.

Aside, the presenter of that podcast has an amazingly boring voice. Worse than that priest with the amazingly boring voice on Father Ted. Actually he sounds like how I imagine all Arsenal fans sound (but don't).

Can't see Villa going to L'arse. 1) He's over 30 so will get no more than a year contract. 2. Wenger already has 3 strikers, he's not likely imo to buy for a position he already has covered. He doesn't stockpile talent. Chelsea on the other hand could be a good shout.

Bendtner and Chamakh will leave this summer and Podolski appears to have fallen out of favour. Then there's the real waste of space Gervinho. Villa would be perfect for them really as he can play on the left as well if necessary.

I thought Arsenal were buying one of Jovetic, Rooney, or Higuain? Most likely Jovetic. Shame since he's young and imo really creative - would slot in at theirs with ease. In fact they're probably going after him as a main striker and Villa as a wide forward.

I'd happily take Villa over Leandro now that Soldado's out, but if paying 14m on an injury-prone player with big wages who will drop to zero value in two years means we have to take McManaman over Bernard ... then no, I don't want Villa. If we're going to be like Dortmund, that means taking risks on youth and avoiding good-but-older players on the decline. A loan for a season would be perfect, though I highly doubt we could convince Villa to come that way unless we guarantee him playing time and hefty bonuses or something. Ideally, Uncle Joe would give us some fudging money just this once since signing Villa would boost our profile and hence, branding ;)

I think we are wasting our time trying to sign Villa. Just can't see him joining us as we cannot offer CL football. The only chance we have of luring him is when no other clubs have interest in him.

I know he's 30 but we aren't exactly a long punt on being CL in the next year or two. We regularly compete for, or achieve top four status.

Villa would surely relish the service Bale would serve up. Maybe he's waiting for Bale to sign up for next season at least.

David Villa is to leave Barcelona this summer, although it will not be an easy deal to seal. The footballer knows he does not feature in Vilanova's plans for next season. He has not played much this year and Neymar's arrival limits his options even further, but the Spanish player has no intention of losing out financially in the move.

When Barcelona signed him, it was for four seasons, until 2014, during which time he would receive a sum of €7.5 million a year. MARCA has discovered, however, that the club accepted the inclusion of a clause by which it is required to pay €11 million to the footballer in his last season.

Barcelona wanted to reward the player's efforts in forcing his exit from Valencia when the club did not want to sell him. That €11 million, however, now poses a problem for all parties involved. Barça cannot shell out such a large amount for a player who will be on the bench and which will make Villa the second highest-paid player in the squad. It will also prove difficult for Villa himself to find a club willing to pay that sum for someone of his age (31) who has had an injury as serious as a fractured tibia.

Villa has offers on the table from the Premier League, Tottenham and Arsenal, but he is not in any hurry to make a decision. The Spanish international will wait until the Confederations Cup is done and dusted to study all the options and come to a decision. He will be looking for a long-term contract to make up for any loss in salary.

€11 million a year works out to £180k per week, or about what Tottenham are going to pay Gareth Bale if he doesn't move to Real Madrid. If £130k per week was too rich for Daniel Levy's blood, that clause is obviously going to make a move even trickier.

We won't sign David Villa. I think its probably a name AVB has put forward to Levy due to his availability to buy from Barca this summer and someone who AVB likes personally and professionally.

We probably have put an offer to Villa/Barca on the table, however given his age, I can't honestly see Levy putting an offer forward that is going to make Villa choose us over other clubs that come in for him.

I could see this drag on without Villa making a decision before he ends up at some daft Turkish or Russian club that comes in and offers him everything money-wise he wants plus a load more.

I honestly can't see Wenger agreeing to offer what he'd want either. Doesn't he have a policy of only offering one-year rolling contracts for players past 31?

I don't think wages will be an issue. Ade was on mega bucks at City and they took the pill and so will Barca IMO.
The issue is does he want to play for us? He is a star but where else can he go? I don't think Wenger will breach his over 30s policy so it could be another Moutinho situation.

i don't think we'd be wasting our time on a player that had no intention of joining us - if we are interested (as yet it's just speculation) then we would have sounded out his representatives as to whether he would consider a move to us

And if we are interested we have apparently given him an offer, we aren't wasting any time. At this stage it's a lot of back and forth between all clubs, but mostly agent dingdongheads, before they start to narrow down on what deals are doable.

My brother in law is reading a book about Barcelona and he was telling me that in it, it says that Villa is naturally a left footer but broke his left leg when he was a kid and didn't want to not play football so played in a cast and practiced until he was also able to use his right foot well which is why he is great with both feet...apparently.

Will depend on other clubs. If another (richer) club is willing to offer him what he wants without Barcelona chipping in then there's no way Barca will accept a deal taking Villa to us.

Recent reports have linked the Barcelona forward with a move to Tuscany and his representative says that his client would not be averse to a Serie A switch

Tottenham target David Villa could be tempted to join Fiorentina due to the Italian club's "interesting project", according to the Barcelona forward's agent.

Spurs are already in advanced talks with Corinthians about a move for Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, but they have also been linked to the Spaniard as they search for a striker to solve their problems up front.

However reports in Spain have suggested that the Viola are looking to bring the 31-year-old to the Artemio Franchi along with Blaugrana youngster Jonathan Dos Santos.

And while Victor Onate has stressed that there is no concrete interest from the Tuscan side, he is a keen admirer of the club's recent work.

"I think it is excessive to say there is formal interest from Fiorentina but we know the type of interesting project they have in mind," he told Tuttomercatoweb.

"I worked with current Fiorentina technical director Eduardo Macia at Valencia. We are friends and in constant communication. Fiorentina had a good season and their intention is to grow even more.

"David is focused on the Confederations Cup. Leaving a club like Barcelona is not easy and it depends on many factors, including next year’s World Cup, as clearly he wants to approach it as a protagonist.

"If he does leave, we are looking for an important project that will allow him to play at a high level. England or Italy makes no difference, as long as the project is good."

Villa has one year left on his contract at Camp Nou.
