yeah the fact he is 31, has had a serious injury recently and has taken a while to get back, also concerns me. I like the idea of Brad showing Villa the delights of yoga though

This is a horrible misconception that he's injury prone. He made 40 appearances last season for Barcelona. His career average per season is 41. So clear shows he is fit to play a lot of games every year. Anyone can break a leg. Yes he's getting on a little bit, but Drogba was tearing EPL defences apart at 33. So we have a few seasons out of him.

Thank you! :)

He's 31 and never had to rely on extreme pace to score his goals. He's also always looked in very good shape whenever I've seen him play, used to be renowned for his hard work for the team back when he was at Valencia and that hasn't stopped for Barca that's for sure.

Barca have some of the fittest footballers around, they need it for their pressing game. The idea that he would come from Barca, but would need Brad Friedel's yoga instructor to teach him how to take care of himself physically makes me shake my head. I just can't see that.

i didnt say he was injury prone, just that it took a while to fully get fit after the leg break. A lot of those 40 appearances were from the bench iirc, because he was not at his best/fittest after being our for almost 8 months

how many footballers do you know that do yoga?? Yoga is a lot more than keeping yourself fit. There are lots of breathing techniques for example that can greatly aid recovery after training/matches. Of course the stretching in certain postures can help prevent muscle injuries. Yes big clubs have all everything to make a footballers life very comfortable, but it doesnt mean that players should close their minds to alternative ways of looking after themselves. Even someone like Ryan Giggs has said how much yoga has helped him prolong his career into his late 30's

Spanish football journo Graham Hunter said on talksport this morning that Villa's reps went to the Spurs training ground at the end of last season and had a good ol' chat with AVB and they came away from the meeting very impressed with what AVB had to say on how he wants the team to play, where Villa would fit in, and the ambitions for the future

I'm not saying that they should close their minds. I have no idea how many footballers do yoga, maybe you can tell me?

I'm just saying that I think Barca know what they're doing when it comes to physical fitness (including recovery after matches and avoiding muscle injuries) at least as well as Brad Friedel's yoga instructor. And that Villa has proven himself to be well trained and most likely knows quite well how to take care of himself at this point.

Based on a couple of articles I've read Barca are far from close minded on this, they're constantly trying to improve their coaching methods using cutting edge approaches. They've managed to keep Leo Messi, one of the quickest and most fouled players around as close to injury free for years as any club could hope to. They play a very intensive high pressing style that requires a lot from their players, yet they seem to manage well season after season even when their fixture list gets congested without having a massive squad. They've managed Xavi's (reported) injury problems and at 33 I've still seen him top distance covered stats in high profile games. Iniesta has played 40+ games for Barca for the last 9 seasons. I think i could go on, but this is getting tedious.

If we sign Villa I think we would be better off asking him what he thinks Barca do right and see if there's anything there we can learn rather than telling him what he should do differently.

He's 31 ffs, not 59. We need someone to bang the ball in the net, he can do that with his eyes closed. Were not asking him to run about like Gordon Durie on steroids ffs.

We are obviously going to pull out a super striker who's 19 and scores 30 goals a season :-"

This move if it happens will be a massive statement of our ambition. Yes I know Villa's stock has dropped a little and that's the only reason this move might come off frankly, but nevertheless, this is David Villa. Keeping Bale, signing Villa, signing Paulinho - these are all very progressive moves by the club and it has to help build our reputation and brand.

Look at it from the point of view of our nearest rivals for top 4, Arsenil

They are trying to get top strikers like Higuain to jump well clear of us... so they'll be gutted if we wheel out Villa for £8m as we will be keeping pace yet again

So you want us to sign a striker better than Higuain? :-k

How about we sign Villa to keep pace up front, and make better signings elsewhere?

I hope(if he signs) we get to see a Bale and Villa partnership up top at some point. I can't think of many better CF combos around.

in the bag then, surely no one would turn down our super duper all singing all dancing state of the art world class training center?

:p

I know I lurk on here far more than I post and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but.........if anyone thinks that this signing is bad idea.....and it may or may not happen.... really is effing clueless...and that is just my opinion...for what it's worth
David Villa is class end of....

I agree with you 100%.

Concur with that mate.

Watched one of the group games in the Confeds and you could still see the man hadn't lost it. Fantatsic player and despite the age I would genuinely jizz in my pants if this was pulled off.
