Daniel Levy - Chairman

If he's still trying to run things, agree

If however, he either has a personal relationship with the people in negotiation (he's been in industry 2 decades), and/or he and the others are doing divide and conquer because they are trying to get multiple players in faster ..

And Wenceslas Square is always worth a visit if it is on company expenses. Same as Paris. :)

Didn't ENIC used to have one of the Prague teams in their portfolio?

And he has personal relationship with the Chairman/President at PSG, so hence reports on Muani

I think that deal will basically come down to who is going to commit to purchase at the end of the season if PSG hold out for that. I have to say, if that was the sticking point of the deal I would understand us backing off.

Here’s the thing I don’t get with those who say Levy cares only about money and not success.

He was at the game today. It was an away game, in the early rounds of the FA Cup, fairly basic facilities and freezing cold. And he was there. How many other chairmen would have gone? Levy could have been holed up in his mansion snorting coke off a hooker’s ass or whatever he does to get his kicks.

Now, I’m not saying he deserves some sort of medal or went through hardship today but he’s gone well out of his way to be at the game like most fans. The point is that fans do it because they want us to win. To me, Levy clearly does as well - he just has a different idea of how to get there.

Don’t disagree generally, just think winning trophies is sometimes at odds with making money for Levy. Owners of other clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool etc would rather win trophies.

Yeah, look, I’m not saying Levy is some sort of martyr or anything. And I do think he prioritises financial stability above all else. I just find the caricature of him as some sort of money hungry Bond villain who doesn’t give a brick about trophies or football as agenda driven and contrary to the facts.

He’s not a Bond villain, but he’s very overrated by our fans. And when push comes to shove he’s too cautious.

If he doesn't sing loudly and live in a council house, he's not a real fan apparently.

So the first problem with everyone who thinks Levy "likes to make money" is

- The club doesn't make money, i.e. it doesn't generate money that is taken out of club
- The model has been "making money via asset appreciation", i.e. as the club is worth more, the potential value of return becomes higher.
- The above two points are not opinions, it's fact backed up by financial statements for 23 years.

The second point about being cautious is undoubtedly true, Levy clearly isn't willing to risk the club in any way for short term gain, may feel very frustrating as a fan, but really is that the worst complaint you can make about a chairman? he isn't willing to fudge up the future of the club to bend to fan pressure?

I'll tell you the thing that kills all the money/it's just business/all bout the asset vs football arguments, it's the stadium build

- The Stadium is massively overbuilt, it's too good, too much detail, too much spend. The club could probably have spent half the money on that build and most people wouldn't have been any wiser. Everton's new stadium in a world that is way more expensive is 750M.

How you renovate a house when you intend to flip it, or even if you think you might leave in 7-10 years is way different that if you see that house as your forever home, people should see that and realize a lot of the narrative is just stupid.

To be clear, I think there are lots to have a go at Levy with, the risk view, managerial appointments, firing decisions. The money ones I think most people just fundamentally get wrong.

There are some stark realisations fans need to understand.

Common phrases that always come up are 'back the manager' 'show some ambition'...the reason fans like these phrases is they have infinite connotations.
It appeals to their emotive side.

Newsflash... 'back the manager' and 'ambition' is a number, every year it's just a number(£). The number DL feeds down to Munn, Lange et al every year, it's finite.
All conversations should be within the boundaries of that finite number otherwise they are not worth having.

That's how we operate, and always have. There's no shenanigans going on.
DL has no personal wealth (ie large lump sum) to alter that. He eeked a bit out of JL when Conte was here but that boat has now sailed. So we carry on doing the best we can, trying to make better decisions within the way we operate across the board.

Believe me I wish the game was totally about emotion, it's sport and team Vs team FFS, it should be, BUT we all know realistically there is a whole backend to football that is cold hard business and imo we have one of the best at that.

We often chastise supporters for the abuse they give to players but DL has had that ten fold for years, and I don't think there's once been a murmur to cut it out (perhaps when becoming anti-Semitic, yes). I probably wouldn't be far wrong in saying this bloke gets up everyday and works long hours to do his very best for this club everyday, (and I don't care if he pays himself well....loads do, and don't put the graft in).

As I said football is emotive and it's all about your emotional needs being met (yeah I get blaming/shaming is a comfort blanket, yawn) but there is a lot more (boringly) in the mix these days.
I guess that we all grow up emotionally at different rates is another biggie to consider, haha :)

If what was said during the Dragusin deal is correct he was not part of that till the end and it was his influence that made the deal happen as he tweaked the numbers
