I’ve just done a six month plus lockdown, so yes I probably understand more about their effects than you dumbass.

Excellent, so you will be than aware of the 150k missed breast cancer screenings alone in Australia and the knock on affects that will have.

all worth it of course instead of shielding.

and more of those maths you seem to have ignored on previous post

the actual modeller of Vallance and Whittys “predictions” has come out and called it rubbish, out of date and misleading.

maybe they need those lessons?

that I want this to be some kind of choice between letting people live and letting it rip is rubbish,
Unfortunately that's what it is. It always has been.

It's acknowledgement of each others augment that is missing. Both arguments are valid BUT sadly both arguments can't be deployed to full effect without being detrimental to the other.

Whomever has to make those decisions has a thankless task, and yes, I even have sympathy for our own government (as people) to have to make those decisions. (Regardless of tinkle poor implementation).

And in the last few days if GG is a microcosm of the entrenchment on both sides, boy is it noisy and scathing (yep, just like Brexit;)) and really adds nothing except ill feeling, which in these times, is the last thing anyone needs.

You need to start posting your sources for these claims. I’ll happy take these things into consideration but a) I watch a lot of Australian news and have never heard this b) the internet is full of people making stuff up so if you want to convince us that lockdown is wrong then give us some more.

Ok so I’m guessing the average adult female gets tested once a year? There’s around 12m women in Australia. Lets say a third of them should get checked, so thats 3m women. So 150k missed doctors appointments really isn't a huge amount. Especially when as a result of the lockdown, thousands of lives were saved. How about go fudge yourself with your Trumplike stats and come up with some decent arguments as to why thousands of UK citizens should die because you don’t like the idea of lockdowns.

Eh?? @Legohamster and @Grays_1890 have posted lots of sources and stats saying the lockdowns are killing lots of people because of other knock-on effects aside from Covid; sources such as Cancer research groups...that's supposed to be Trump-like??

Thanks, useful to have these posted. I don’t see where the 150k came from but perhaps you added things up? But the article is about screenings, not cancer patients so I think you’re making a bit much of it.

The key thing is this paragraph:

During lockdown, some cancer services were scaled back or delayed, although people were still encouraged to deal with any essential or urgent care.

There was literally nothing stopping someone from seeking treatment during lockdown.

The fact that they could only find one person to interview for the article, and that she was waiting for elective surgery says a lot too. I’m not playing down Kerri Besanko‘s need for surgery, but if it’s her breast reconstruction vs keeping thousands of people a live then there’s not much of a choice.

Sydney was barely locked down. At all. Nothing stopping anyone from going for a medical appointment. Even in Melbourne where a good friend of mines father has had chemo during lockdown, he attended every session he needed to. Maybe the fact Murdoch owns the Sydney Morning Herald means he posts Trumplike denials about covid.

Tbf, in UK there has been a lot of talk from Cancer charities and Hospital Doctors that some who would have been screened for cancer have not been and actually been diagnosed with cancer and at later stages making their chances of survival far less than if caught earlier....

Which is obviously bad. But why are they not getting their screenings? In Australia, as far as I know, everything was available during lockdown. I went with my partner to the doctor, she got treatment (for something superficial, not cancer).

Shutdowns, GP services going up the spout 'because of the pandemic',putting all hospital services towards covid, general messaging to 'stay at home' etc etc

No idea how it works in Australia. Over here it's only the over 50s who get automatically screened, and the frequency is every 3 years.

Messaging in Australia was stay home unless essential. I’m still yet to see any evidence of the lockdown killing more people than letting COVID do it’s thing would.
