Coronavirus

Interesting that the chair of the 22 has gone anti-lockdown mental, makes things trickier for Johnson.
He'll at least face a tougher time at the vote stage.

If they have enough with them then Johnson will have to rely on Labour votes. I fully expect to see them insist upon a stack of extra money for disease ridden scousers to win the vote.

Covid-19 deaths could be twice as high over the winter as they were in the first wave of the pandemic, PM Boris Johnson is expected to warn MPs later.

In a Commons statement he will say there is "no alternative" as he seeks to win support for a planned four-week lockdown in England from Thursday.

Ok Boris

Whilst refusing to publish the data and workings on how they got to that number

it’s already wrong.

The legislation will go through and I would guess we will have an early school break for Xmas, that involves a period of shielding before they allow mixing for Xmas

Imo the people that properly need to shield (ie not just vulnerable) will still have to at Xmas (sadly). This lockdown just won't get the infections down numbers wise or quickly enough.

Pretty consistent with right wing nut jobs around the world.

Considering the retired in the UK make up the richest households the idea of a lockdown for those who are able to support themselves financially is more right wing than it is socialist. They were staunch Brexit voters too for that very reason as pointed out by many on here at the time.

A real socialist would be worried about the welfare of all. The idea that taking a decision that protects the richest but plunges the poorer into being poorer, has a detrimental effect on welfare, increases child poverty, disrupts education and increases unemployment is one the left would normally be supportive of is abit of a lie

You’re like one of those ‘wind up and go’ toys. Farage being an anti-lockdowner is consistent with right wing nut jobs around the world, like Trump, Bolsanaro, the Murdoch press and the 50 or so single blokes who protested here a few times (and also can’t agree whether the virus is real, fake or caused by 5G).

Na just don't agree that anti lockdown represent a right wing view and just because you have chucked the words Farage, Right Wing and anti lockdown into a post together does not make it that either.

The fact a left wing socialist would be championing the idea that we need to protect the many not the few and lockdowns damaging the many to support the fewer. Lockdowns damaging the working classes more than they do anyone else would be even more reason for the left to be more hesitant to lockdown.

I would lay off sniffing the zinc oxide

The are plenty who think the virus is real but the cure is worse then the disease.

Not if the lockdown is done properly for a defined period of time. I believe that two months of proper lockdown would do it in the UK. One month is never going to be enough and Boris knows it. Save a shed load of lives, and re-emerge like Taiwan, Australia etc have with economy ready to resume full business. The non willingness of the UK to confront this challenge is frankly pathetic and synonymous with modern day Britain. Can’t cope without the pubs for a few weeks. This thread is so tedious I barely bother looking in here anymore, same people beating the same drums. All the while the hospitals are filling up and i hope none of you actually need medical help once they’re full. Let alone the elderly and vulnerable, whose lives aren’t worth protecting apparently.

Nothing to do with people though, you have to follow what the government dictate regardless with what is written on here, its just opinion. Ultimately a million people lost their jobs so far, 9 million are taking less wages, 15,000 more died from non Covid deaths because they could not get treatment and people are going to comply with two lockdowns whilst seeing theirs and their families prospect suffer. I think they can not really be accused of not going into bat over this.

Anyone on here support that fruit loop David Icke and part of the Lizzard theory posse? Keen to understand more behind his inane rantings and why people believe his bat brick theories.. other than “control” etc !

You believe that? Lockdowns rely on civic obedience which the UK doesn’t have. If people continue to mix socially it will take far too long for the numbers to come down. It took nearly four months in Melbourne from a starting point of 700 a day. You’re on thousands a day. The police don’t have the resources to implement the rules as fully as they need go be.
