Contingency planning : When Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

Agree with your point Billy, but to be fair the figure wouldn't be quite so significant in terms of difference when factoring in how transfer fees have gone up the past few years since Poch was here. However, its clear as day the difference in us recruiting some real talented youngsters eg Gray/Bergvall/Sarr/Tel along with the more established Solanke/Vicario etc vs the Sissoko/N'Jie/Janssen/N'Koudou era we had when Poch was around - it's night and day for the most part....

Yeah there's some accounting for transfer fee increases to be had but I don't think that they have risen enough to alter the point made. (We're talking about a ten times increase in spending afterall) It's not just the players signed but the whole department that has been put in place, there just wasn't anyone there to support the manager in his transfer decisions - you look at what Ange said about the process of signing Dragusin for example, about how it was a move that started back in the summer with working on developing a list of CBs, then narrowing it down with the manager & transfer team having their input (providing data and profiles and whatnot) that all helps give as clear a picture to the manager as to who is the right choice, there just wasn't any of that previously and it was left to Hitchens to scramble around finding cheap punts that allowed us to keep spend low and vaguely match the criteria

Looking at Birmingham City sitting pretty at the top of League One does get me wondering about the impact of our club losing Chris Davies.

+27 GD with only 19 goals conceded. Only 2 losses in the league. 63 points from 27 games.

I'd love to get Chris's opinion about what he think goes on with Ange's tactics. It's not like he's taken the Ange playbook with him and implemented it. He's implemented at Birmingham what he thinks will make him a winner in the league he's in.

Food for thought.

Yeh I think I questioned the same a week or so back, he looks to have lot about him, seemingly a loss to us.

I think Fees have plateau'd slightly recently TBH, being that everyones skint

For the biggest transfers I'd agree - But the PL teams are all extremely rich now, we had to spend what was it 60m on Solanke from Bournemouth who size wise are one of the smaller clubs - wouldn't have been anywhere near that amount in Poch's day. But @billyiddo is right, point still stands and not enough of a difference to disprove the point which I agree with anyway.....

Is there transfer fee increases? I can remember in the Poch tenure when stupid money was being thrown around in the market place. Personally, I don't see that much difference.

I think what was happening though is that Poch knew what players he needed to maintain our position and strengthen, as the squad got older, but the club couldn't achieve it. In Poch's mind, his team would have had Mane, Wijnaldum, De Jong, De Ligt, Fernandez, Dybala etc join our club. He would have had more top table players like he got with Son, Dele and Toby. He would have also had the logical argument to convince the other great players to stick around.

That just wasn't achievable in the stadium build years. Poch brought the club 3 lots of incremental CL revenues that weren't really in the forecast until the stadium opened. He didn't get to see that money either. The transfer fees for Mason, Townsend, Bentaleb etc also made the numbers look better than they were. There's close to £50m just with those 3 sales.

Why does anyone think he would come back right now? Serious answers only please.

Mate, come on, he's literally said it (more than once). In the same conversation @Muttley referenced he mentioned he wants to, could be 5 years, could be 10 but he wants to come back.

I know a ton of people like to get offended for Poch, but it's clear he's not as upset with Levy as people would like to make out.

You hint at it, I've got my info, there are certain people at the club (not Levy) that there is a conflict with, and again, slight difference of which way that issue is expressed.

And I'm not on that train, but it clearly still something Poch would consider.
