Just find the whole U21 qualifying age totally confusing as under PL rules for home growns they use the end of the season as a cut off point which gives Odobert home grown status but he was over 21 on 1st Jan 2026 his birthday was in Nov 25.
So Tel does not take up a space until next season but in January when Simons is likely to be back he will want a spot.

A.1.155. “Home Grown Player” means a Player who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any Club (or club) affiliated to The Football Association orthe Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three Seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21) and, for the purposes of this definition of “Home Grown Player”, a Season will be deemed to commence on the date on which the relevant Summer Transfer Window closes and expire on the date of the final League Match of the Season

A.1.321. “Under 21 Player” means a Player under the age of 21 as at 1 January in the year inwhich the Season concerned commences (i.e. for Season 2026/27 born on or after 1January 2005

Then Kulusevski and Simons

I agree Takai and Sarr go.

My point is that if Kulu and Simons are both likely to return before winter (Kulu definitely is) - or to make room for say Gapko - I would drop Robertson instead (give him cup games and a coaching role), as we have 3 other LBs.

We are not going to drop Robertson, the LB we just bought. He is also the primary backup LB for Udogie whose injury record is hardly stellar. Try again.

Yes, I understand Gakpo's ability to play as a 9. It is a significant reason why I'd like him, as he offers dimensions we don't have right now.

We already have Savio and Kudus as elite dribblers, and Xavi likes to give it a go too. We don't have as much sheer power upfront of the kind Gakpo could bring.

I am not sure we could convince Ndiaye to come here given who we already have in the squad TBH.

That is last season (where every Liverpool player bar 1 struggled).

If you look over the last 3 seasons, a few things pop up

- Gakpo has 43 goals in all comps (vs 21 in all comps for Ndiaye)
- Gakpo has played 154 games for club in 3 seasons (vs 117 for Ndiaye)
- Gakpo is 5" taller, and only one year older

Unless Ndiaye is really just "the cheap option"/some kind of Richi swap deal (and that in itself is an issue), not sure why we would go for him.

This team needs height and goals, Gapko is ahead imo on both of those.

I get he’s tall - we are lacking here - but is Gakpo good in the air? Genuine question. I can’t say I’ve ever noticed this about this part of his game. If he is, I get the logic.

Personally, I’d prefer Ndiaye as I enjoy watching him more than Gakpo and also think he’d be a good fit in multiple positions.

I think it is because I'm thinking a few chapters ahead of where we are in this novel !!!

Too many Pool mates that tell me he is a one trick pony. I think we'll love him when he joins us and he'll help us improve in the short term. Then in the mid-term, our thoughts will change closer to where Pool's are now. Then in the long term, he'll get disenfranchised and won't settle for being on our bench in the same way he has at Pool.

With Ndiaye, he isn't a one trick pony but definitely needs unlocking to get to the next level in the sort of way we saw with Mbuemo in the PL. By the way, so does Kudos.

Let me think about it another way. If we had Kane, Haaland or Osimhen for number 9, who would we want in the wider forward area? For me, it would be Ndiaye.
