clarkson uses the N word

Thing **** me off, alot of black people are like Liverpool fans (always play the victim) I'm sorry but its getting a little ridiculous now. It's 2014 just live with it, its not as if he called anyone it directly.

Hahaha amazing. Truly superb.

Non-argument?

I don't disagree with a lot of what you say. Other comedians go farther but in the specific context of comedy clubs, not public TV.

Clarkson is a bigot, rather than a racist, but why excuse this? I used to enjoy his articles in the Sunday Times until a nasty anti-Greek one a long time ago (possibly the 80s). His modus operandus is bigotry dressed up as an anti-PC agenda. He has a hostory of cultural racism. I think our broadcasting would have been better if he was dumped long ago, but if this is the reason he can claim to be unlucky ... this time.

Top gear isn't intended at least partially as comedy? You don't have comedy on public TV?

No idea what you're on about with "cultural racism" here. Cultural racism? Is that a term now?

It might just be that I have a higher tolerance for insensitivity in humor. It's the kind of stuff I like. I'm sure you'd all have George Carlin sacked too.

Like I said, he's a cnut. Just for that he should be sacked. What a snide, pompous, self-important buffon this twerp is. How did the no-talent get a gig in the media in the first place.

What a horrible opinion.

You think he's a so and so, you think he's snide, pompous and self important. So he should be sacked? Ridiculous.

You might dislike him, but it's difficult to argue that he has no talent. He's the main host on one of the most popular shows around.

No. Just no.

As Scara has already alluded to, he has made a living by being controversial, what is difficult about that? I'll bet even you could do a half decent job of it, even me. The man is an embarrassment, given he has 'racist' form, in terms of what he has to say about other nationalities. But of course its his 'humour' so it isn't meant to be taken seriously. No, it's a cheap shot. As for TG being comedy...about as funny as a heart attack!

A lot of people are controversial and utterly unpopular. Twist or turn it however you want, but Top Gear is a super popular show, and Clarkson seems to attract a rather large audience whatever it is he does. You think it's not funny at all, others disagree, to thus say that he has no talent seems rather narrow minded to me.

I think the word you're looking for is xenophobic by the way.

This is exactly what I mean. I may not have worded my last comment as well as I would have liked but it's 2014 and apart from a few people who say the wrong thing or are clearly racist then there is not really a problem as the majority of people are decent human being who do not let a thing like race come between anyone. I know a lot of black people who regularly take the **** and have digs at white people but I suppose that's fine? Stand up comedians publicly ripping into the white folk. If we are going to make such a big deal out of it every time someone says something then we are never going to get any better. As far as I'm concerned it's all equal rights and we are all the same regardless of colour of skin so just take it on the chin and move on.

Again I may not have worded this correctly but I hope people take this the way it's intended.

Looking over it again I would like to apologise if I offended anyone and it was a silly comment to make on my part. I was wound up by something I watched where a woman really went ott about this subject and was a little insulted by it. I just don't understand how racism is still such a big deal what with this being such a multi cultural country.

I guess apart from on the t.v I have never really witnessed much discrimination so I don't see how bad it really is outside of my own little world and just assume people are making a big deal over nothing.

Your second post is pretty good there Yiddo, which is a good thing because the one before it was pretty awful.

Good admission at the end too, I think you're right about the difference between experiences and I think you underestimate the amount of both latent and explicit racism still left.

Regarding your first post, I won't go into detail with everything I disagree with, but I think you should consider the dynamics of a minority that has been oppressed for quite so long compared to the majority that has been, an remains, privileged. In an ideal world what is acceptable on one side should be acceptable on the other, but we don't live in that ideal world and the context should be considered.

Racism unfortunately seems to come extremely easy to humanity, it's something worth being aware of in oneself and in others. The desire to jump to conclusions prematurely and make the kind of generalizations you made is a fairly natural, almost instinctual behaviour. Something to watch out for and be aware of imo.

But that is complete nonsense though.

Yeah for sure it is better to be living as a minority in 2014 Britain or Western Europe or the US than those countries in the 1960s.

I'm not going to bother getting into this discussion, I've had it millions of time with people on this board who simply cannot see or understand the difficulties that people of minorities still face in this country and more importantly, I don't really have the time to engage in long debates on gg anymore, hence my very rare visits to random now.

Racism is still very much ingrained within culture, whether it is their relative absence at some of the UK's top universities, 'random' stops by the police, media demonisation, the refusal to let to blacks or your chances of being interviewed for a job decreasing based on your ethnicity, even if the cvs put forward are exactly the same.

The main difference with the racism that exists now is that it tends to be much less out in the open. The general attitude has changed. It isn't acceptable to go around calling people niggers, pakis or yids (in the non-footballing context). In some ways, it was easier like that, you could at least avoid such people. People are a lot quieter and more sneaky about it now. Which can be far more dangerous imo.

I do really appreciate your apology though, very rarely occurs on this board.

who played the victim on this occasion btw?

btw what religion are you?

How patronising is that? No, I wasn't looking for that word. I think cnut is the most apt way to describe him. However, I agree he is also an irrational hater of all things foreign.

Meh, whatever.

Bigotry (or perceived bigotry) against nationalities really cannot be called racism. Doing so implies something that first of all isn't true, but also is something that actually offends quite a few people.

His mother wrote a book about the family firm that made cuddly toys and amongst other things gollywogs.

"The introduction of Golly caused us enormous grief," she writes. Nevertheless, "We launched a superb Golly." There were complaints. "A muesli-shoed do-gooder from Islington saw one and alerted the media." It made the evening news and the firm, Gabrielle Designs, was "ordered to stop making them". By whom? "Presumably the Golly enforcement department, but we completely ignored it."

The Clarkson war on so-called political correctness goes back a long way.

There must be some redemption points available for coining the phrase "muesli-shoed do-gooder" - that's incredible.

Edit:

I've just followed your link to the article and not only does the author look very much like what I imagine a muesli-shoed do-gooder from Islington does, he's also managed to perfect that Guardian reader smirk that suggests he's very proud of his choice to be a douchebag.

=; I'm sure it's not just "black people" who are making a big deal of this. Unbelievable comment
