cars

Test drove the MG4 - that's a lot of car for almost no money. Unfortunately it drives like a blancmange.

Ended up getting a fairly low mileage Kia Niro EV (apparently she does like SUV type cars after all 🙄). I'm seriously impressed with the options that come with that car, some of them are better than on the Taycan.

I needed a new van for my business which has to double as a car also. So a VW Caddy Maxi fitted the bill. It is longer than my old van and has air con and all the comforts.
I found one locally, very clean, ex Scottish Power, 1.6 Tdi 102 bhp, 96,000 miles. Dealer garage, 12 months warranty, new timing belt, water pump etc. 2011 and 6 grand which although is punchy is surprisingly fairly representative.

After a day or two showing low coolant level, took it back......might have some air in the system, keep topping up and bring it back if no change.
Problem continued and noticed sludge, not a good sign.
Van went in over Christmas, new oil cooler pump fitted, no change. Suspected head problem or block.
Offered my money back or a replacement engine with 60k , same code out of a 2012 Golf. But I have to stump up 500 quid towards it !!
My immediate thoughts were involving the words.... sun don't shine, but on reflection I get a fresher engine with new belt and water pump, new clutch plus I assume the new oil cooler, still a 12 month RAC Platinum warranty up to 5k cover. In the van I wanted in the first place.
The worst that can happen is I get my money back or the van repaired on warranty.
It's come at a bad time and could be another 7 days until I get it back.
Courtesy car BMW 116 i petrol 3 door. I hate it.

Unsurprisingly the replacement engine for my Caddy van is knackered too. Again the dealer offered me my money back, again I said I want the van fixed properly.

Surely he is insured?
He says he is. I have read insurance companies try to offload liability onto the owner...ie me. That means 9 years no claims bonus gone. I am dreading the worst now. Its almost like its contrived. Can't repair it so get it knicked. Thing is he offered me my money back twice and I said no....get it fixed. Maybe I'm just seeing the worst and it's genuine.?

I have read dealers are insured only if they take reasonable measures to prevent theft. ie don't leave the keys in the vehicle for a start.

Id say don’t assume the worst just yet
And no claims really isn’t as good as it should be

I'm fairly sure his insurance has to cover that. The Aston specialist I use is always complaining about how high his insurance premiums are due to the high expense and risk of theft.

Yes the vechicle is under their care, and covered by their public libility insurance if nothing else. They will have a policy to cover their vechicles. @TheQuest ensure their insurance pays out, and your no claims will be untouched.

My broker is of the opinion even without a claim, a theft goes against you for future premiums. I have notified my insurer this morning as my policy states I had to despite the vehicle being covered by the garage's insurance.
I asked the motor dealer if he would buy me a replacement van.....guess what ? NO , he wants the insurance pay out first!!

It is logged, but it won't count against your no claims. That will remain clear if the claim is made on their insurance.

I had similar when my car was stollen at an airport carpark. Blantly an inside job as well!

It won’t go against your no claims bonus
But you premiums will go up as you will deemed a risk..
It’s a daft system
Someone crashes into you and yet you pay for some pf the burden indirectly

Update.
My van was found and recovered by the Police. Stolen by members of the travellers community who have been arrested and charged.
I don't know the condition of it yet, no keys, found abandoned in a street with both sliding side doors open.
The garage who were in the process of fixing it when stolen are claiming on their insurance. There are costs such as compound storage charge and new keys .
I asked the dealer how we can turn a negative into a positive ?
So far the van has a new timing belt, oil cooler, water pump and clutch. A 12 month RAC platinum warranty with 5 k spend limit and was immaculate. Air con, ply lined, alloy wheels, just what I wanted.
If the thieves haven't vandalised it, I still want it back but with a good engine this time, not a 60k lump knocking at the top end !!
That could be the best positive for me and the dealer wants me to be happy as he feels partly responsible ( as he is ) !!
The other option is to get my 6 k back and go looking for another van which he may help with from the trade.
As a victim of crime I got a notice from the police telling me to collect the van within 2 weeks or it gets sold and that in the meantime I am being charged storage. Nice way to treat a victim, in the pocket and in an uncaring officious way?
