cars

Looking at buying a car now I’ve left my job
We had a C40 which was great but still a volvo
Thinking of trying an IX3
We went and looked at an IONIQ 5 and an EV6 too

Anyone got any experience of the above cars?

Tried both the IONIQ 5 and EV6. I preferred the EV6. Better comfort, nicer interior and exterior imo. Feels a bit more plastic inside the IONIQ. Not heard about any serious issues with either, other than Hyundai has had problems with the 12V battery discharging, but they say thats solved now.

Was out testdriveing a BYD Sealion 7 the other day. Best Chineese car I've tried. By a mile! Great interior and apart from a few things, most systems were on par with european models, exeptions being the usual; lane assist and driver monitoring , both those were easy to turn off, without having to go deep into endless menues. The power in that car was something else too! 0-100 kph in 4,5 seconds.

My mate who runs the fleet team at my old company really rates BYD
My friends EV9 had the 12v issue as soon as it for delivered
They claimed it was because it hasn’t been charged ..

BYD will become huge! They mean serious business. Just the last 2 years they've hired more people than the total amount working in Daimler-Benz, and their research and technology department alone counts 120 000 people!

I've seen BYD cars and dealerships popping up everywhere in Europe over the last year or so. There's an old YouTube review by the carwow guy comparing it with the Tesla and it wasn't too far off. Obviously the in car screen technology is better in the Tesla, and the Tesla was better when he tried to bomb it round a track... but for the price he said the BYD was a decent buy in comparison. I've not been in either so couldn't say myself but the review is worth a watch if you can find it.

Tesla’s are very hit and miss
Get a good one and you have a good one
Get a bad one… and it falls apart
The drive is boring IMO

Teslas have been built like cheap Chinese brick from the start. Beating them will be easy, beating those with build quality might be different.

Apparently BYD are working on quick change battery systems - that would be a game changer.

Bought a Peugeot E3008 full BEV 3 months ago.
I can only say "don't".
There is nothing wrong with the BEV side of things, it has saved us a fortune already as we have a driveway.
My complaint is with Peugeot. We paid 50K for the GT, they removed the sunroof, air freshener and GHod knows what else.
I had to wait 4 months on delivery, I would not have accepted it otherwise. The peripheral view, reverse view is non existent. The 360 camera is no more, replaced with a virtual version supplied by the reverse cam. the rev cam has no cleaner and is located to accumulate mud.

It's also off by about 3 inches. So twice I have had low speed (like 2mph) reversing collisions to fudge up my paint. This btw is because I have to retract the wing mirrors as the damn car is so wide.

Not all voice commands are active, tbh its a fudging shambles. I would not buy this after 2-3 days use

Sounds really bad
Is it as spec?

Took out an IX3 today
Rolled around a lot bit could be my driving. Compared to the Volvo it felt very top heavy
Couldn’t take out the Ioniq as the one they had in stock has the 12v battery issue so that’s a none starter
She did say we should try a merc EQB
I’ve never been a merc fan but it does look a good practical fit for us

If you switch from a combustion car and go directly into an EV, you do notice the weight. You just can't get away from that extra half a ton. But 99,99% of the time, it's not an issue.

The Volvo is a heavy electric but drives well imo
Could be the car set up because every review I’ve read talks about the drive being great on the BMW

That's just lazy journalism, Going on BMW reputation for being 'drivers cars'. I've only briefly tried the IX3, and it felt very similar to my 225xe, and that one is not a typical BMW. Can understand your feeling of it being a bit top heavy.

It did feel all quite rushed
I think my wife would bite my hand off if I said get another c40

I walked past a BYD shop the other day and the Seal looked really nice from the outside, I think it's their top spec car and it's about 48K which isn't bad for what you get. Supposed to be a nice drive, they'll definitely get traction. I'm sure Tesla's are nice but similar to Apple you do pay a fair premium for the brand.

The tech in Tesla is fantastic. Great media interface and app control. Other than that, they're awful. Bad sound insulation, ride is hard and not very comfortable, bad build quality, absolutely awful customer service (literally non-existent) and not my taste of interior. Looks like a hospital operating room. So sterile.
In Norway they're about the cheapest cars you can get, and they're more common than Lada's in Russia.
Another reason I'll never ever even would consider buying one. And Musk....

Think I've only been in one as a taxi for a few miles, the dashboard looked snazzy. Not a fan of those big bubble roofs. A mate has one and it's pretty cool you can turn on the air con/heating from your phone but think he pays about £8/900 a month for it - way overpriced.
