Brennan Johnson

That disallowed Son goal was almost beautiful wasn't it?

Fine margins before the moments of madness, it's a big if but man if we had got that 2nd goal it would have been a different story.

He didn't look in anyway awed by the occasion and as said it's a shame that he was sacrificed. Understandable given Son's pace / finishing and Kulu's ball retention but a shame nonetheless.

Even as a staunch supporter of Richy it totally made sense to start him and it's likely we'll see Brennan start again on Saturday, ideally with a lot longer to be able to showcase his abilities.

Looked really good against Chelsea but almost seemed to be playing within himself, think there's a lot more to come. He's seriously rapid as well.

Hope he gets a start in the next game, early days i know but he looks confident in what he has shown so far.

Has that Lennon feel with the way he is lighting quick but doesn't necessarily feel comfortable in 1 on 1s. It's like he bursts forward then looks around for the best option. As long as he links up well and chooses the best pass etc. more often than not then he's gonna be a really useful player for us.

Johnson has largely been very good. Been a bit unlucky with a disallowed goal (SU), disallowed assist (Chelsea) and a great save (Arsenal).

I think the position on the left is really his to lose as it stands. It will of course be interesting see how we setup with Maddison now, but hey ho we'll see.

Don't think he should have come off. He got behind them once late in and might have done again. Once he went off , there was less threat.

Because we were playing deep
And we played deep because the midfield didn’t move the ball forwards
So many sideways passes

We caught them offside a yard away from the halfway line at one point (which we hilariously took the free kick from in their half), that doesn't happen if you're playing deep.

Interesting one today, agree with Robbo that he faded along with others. Also Royals runs weren't anywhere near as effective/ penetrating as we see from Udogie so you could argue Johnson had less to work with.

Great anticipation for his goal and it was well taken. However it's clear from the amount of times he had the ball and chose to pass it back to the CBs he's somewhat averse to risk taking. Maybe it was under instruction but it just felt like he didn't have the self belief to take someone on and create something out of nothing. When you add Son not really getting in the game, there was little chemistry between the front three today.

Isn’t the rule that you take the free kick for offside where the player touches the ball? So it’s quite possible to take a free kick for offside in your opponents half.

Although they change the rules soo often that it’s tough to keep up.

I mean we played all our passes deep
I watched with my dad and everytime we had the ball he kept on saying sideways .. sideways
And there was lots of that
The offside was funny as we deffo took the free kick in their half

?
No
It’s where the player is offside
Can’t be offside in your own half
