So I am guessing you'd have been OK with "...at the hands (sic) of white, Latino and Asian police officers?" I am genuinely trying to establish which parts of the phrase make you unhappy. Is it the "white" bit?
Welcome to a world where black people always get their skin colour called out and are often misnamed (i.e. African American when that is not nearly always accurate).
If this really did offend you, then I think you're looking for it. My opinion.
Why not say " At the hands of police officers" because that was the truth.
