Black Lives Matter

Just got in and seen the videos of the far right lot. Utter tacos, i at least think the black lives matter have a point even if i think they have gone to far with the churchill thing.

The far right though, jeez what an ugly bunch. At least some of these far left ones are attractive. Nearly all the righties i saw had the fcuking tattoos which i just cant stand, crap but expensive clothes and pasty skin like it was their first time outside and their diets consist of microwaved cornish pasties.

Also the amount wearing necklaces. Yeah very fcuking tough.

Not that many will agree but I like the fact it proves the number of far right are small numbers if that’s any consolation and you can recognise the same faces which shows its a select number of protagonists

Always said when Tommy Robinson stood at European elections in manchester and he got a tiny amount of votes and the brexit party got about 30 times as much proved that yes while the are some racists about, the vast majority are not.

Think were pretty good as a whole in this country and far less racist then the other European countries i have been to. But the are a lot of white people who were bullied at school and feel inferior and want to target anyone with the same skin as their bullies. Labelling us all racist while wallowing in the reflected glory of helping an oppressed people helps to banish some inner demons for the white liberal. Not saying anyone on this site has been doing that.....

People being scared and worried about a right U.K. is over the top for that reason for me and that’s not to mock how people feel because that wouldn’t be right. But I don’t think Brexit was a right wing agenda more the left missing the mood of most of the nation, as it was again proven when loads of leftist Labour voters boycotted the party in December. Its all to easy and lazy to just shout “racist” and not explore the facts. Which is mad considering we have to look at the past in great detail but no one wants to look at the present in greater detail at fear of being proved wrong

Funny how some protestors in America got unnecessarily badly treated, we have a mob here who basically need wading in on to really show them that nope, we're not having this.

I made this point to Scara a few days back from experience. In such situations the police never ever get heavy handed with proper tossers, it is the fringe. Smart of BLM to cancel their protest as they would've ended up "worse off" precisely because they are not generally speaking a bunch of total and utter tossers.

We have a world class police force despite recent popular opinion

I think they are better than the absolute scum police in Spain, Italy and to a degree, France, but once again I have to ask, where were the aggressive disassembly tactics of other marches?

Like I mentioned earlier, it’s a global issue.

We may not have the same statistics as other parts of the world but we certainly have the same structural inequalities.

Extremism is once again emerging from it’s hole, look how little it took for a bunch of clams to descend on the cenotaph, start throwing Nazi salutes and attack the police.

I’m not surprised she’s scared, I’m scared too, and I’m about as white privilege as you can get.

We are in a dangerous place, and the current leadership, both here and in the US, have actively encouraged it.

On the money.

Once again I have to marvel at the people jumping all over her. Via a tweet. Is there a longer interview? I wonder how many people here have any comprehension of what it is to be black in this current society? I don't and my dad was brown and got his share. Again, reading people evaluating her fears versus facts is bizarre; she obviously feels threatened by the police. Ask her why.

I’ve shared this story many a time but I went to watch England in Europe a few years ago and was stopped and profiled 3 times, had to produce my passport as all white English men are hooligans apparently. Happens to everyone

I've been profiled at air ports many many times for my last name. A little extra if you will.

Back in '99 I was puller at Frankfurt Airport. Was on a trip to see us at Kaiserslautern via a mate's in Mannheim (bodyguard as it happens). I had no colours. I was detained for three hours in a holding pen, grilled relentlessly about my journey (friend played for us so tickets were at a will call window) my passport copied and told in no uncertain terms I risked a ban if I went and deportation.

I went of course. tossers.

I can only imagine that on a regular basis; I would be a very, very angry man.

As one black person recently said, we should be lucky that black people seek equality and not revenge.

Which other marches you referring to?

The recent ones where police horses and aggressive push-back tactics have been employed.

I am willing to concede these might have been employed today (I was not there) but it Appears from what I have read that instead a kettle/contain tactic was used.

To an extent but my mate who is a very decent member of the Met who recently has put his own life and family at risk for justice in Northern Island And his colleagues who are world class police deserve judgement on a different plain than lumping them all in for the perceived global good.

I would argue that by causally lumping all issues in together does nothing but maintain the divide and is far from helpful.
My sister in law is a detective. Two of my friends here are in the force. They freely admit there are many systemic issues.

Perhaps the biggest in the US right now is that police are doing several jobs at once. They are not social workers or homeless specialists. They are being pushed into areas where their training is simply inadequete.
