AVB & Spurs Tactics and Formations discussion thread

It's not hate - he's 29 in March and might struggle under AVB's system (hopefully not for our sake because Rose frightens me)

If I want Fridel replaced with a long-term signing doesn't mean I'm 'hating'

25m is nothing for a near-world class LB with a decade left of steam. (assuming he wants out and Madrid want to cut their losses)

Althogh his position is one of lower priority at this stage, possibly abother season or so before we should really start getting nervous

BAE has never been about pace. He could easily maintain this level another 4-5 years, but it depends on how long he wants to keep playing.

25m for any fb in world football (and i include Alves) is total madness. Personally i think FB is the least important position on the pitch so i wouldn't even spend £15m on the best fb in world football if given the opportunity.

It's not solely about pace (he's actually fairly quick, imv) - more about tactical understanding and ability to peform your specific duty for 90 mins at a high tempo and consistently. In addition to conisderably increasing his positional awarness as well as that on his opponents and team-mates. Or in other words - watch your man, Benoit.

But this is heading in a dangerous territory of daring to question a massive fan favourite twitter legend so let me rather stop here than repeat my previous mistake few months ago where the masses rose and nearly crushed me for my blashpemy

So - back to AVB - I'm 95% sure he'd opt for his 'father's' 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 so my formation further up is most likely inaccurate.

That would make him 28, although in 3 months you can start saying that he's 28 and a half...

What part of AVB's system is it you see Ekotto struggling in? I see him as one of the better fits myself so I'm curious.

i wonder if Bostock will finally mature and impress AVB in pre-season

Which part about his age was incorrect?

I've outlined above my personal analysis of his game

And if Coentrao is poor defensively that would make BAE a fudging shocker 'defensively' because it is his good passing game which masks his shortcomings at the back

Because you're stating his age in 8 months time to add a year to his current age, that's something I'd expect from GB.

As I mentioned earlier - the LB position is of lower priority at this stage so when it surfaces onto the agenda next season (hopefully) - he'd be 29

I didn't start his age in 8 months time - only mentioned he will be 29 in March which is true. Obviously he's 28 now

Although not factually incorrect I thought it was a rather unusual way of stating how old someone are.

You later state that Coentrao has "a decade left of steam". However, you could instead have said that "he's 25 next March". If you consistently referred to how old people would be next March, 8 months from now or at the start of next season that would be a tad strange, but at least consistent. When you use the "next March" to make Ekotto seem older while using "a decade left" about the 24 year old Coentrao it seems a bit strange to me. And even somewhat ironic considering your comments about how other fans behave when discussing Ekotto.

Since this is the AVB tactics and formations thread I was curios about what parts of Ekotto's game you thought were ill fits into his system, I couldn't see that and I still can't. But fair enough.

Least important?

It's a team game, fudge that. If your full backs are brick then they will be your weakness. Just like if any other position is brick.

Basically Arcs thinks Benny can't defend, can't read the game, has no concentration and is only rated because he says funny things on twitter. I disagree, but it's pointless debating so ...

BALE AS A RWF = NO THANK YOU.

People moaned and bitched when he played on the right under Arry yet now it's a fantastic idea.

Indeed. He plays on the left, he plays on the le-e-ft, Gareth Bale, He plays on the left.

I like the fact he can cut inside, but for moments of inspiration not an entire match.

I think Bae is a very good player, he has maintained a high level with some shaky performances, as all players in periods. But we need a better backup that can take over in a season or two. As it stands right now on the market, Olsson would be the best option, as Blackburn went out. He should not be so expensive and he has much experience, though he is young.

'better backup'

Mean someone with more potential?

Like Fryers?

(not saying he'll be great, but that does appear to be the purpose of that exercise)
