AVB & Spurs Tactics and Formations discussion thread

I also forgot to mention Pienaar!!!! I am convinced he is an AVB player if there ever was one in our squad! Much more so that say Krancjar or perhaps even Thudd purely because of his stamina and pressing game (see Milan away in Feb 2011)...

Lots of options for AVB and the new DOF to go through ... I just hope that they have been working through the various scenarios and players long before the announcement yesterday, as I think there's going to be a lot of training, even re-training, to get the guys up to speed with a new system of play.

Seeing that AVB's also brought his fitness coach, I think this is the area that is going to see a lot of attention. Great thing is that we're still 6 weeks away, but I recall there was some players not happy with the fitness regime when Ramos was around.

The other thing is the new training ground/academy. I'm sure AVB's going to have a big say in how stage the development of young footballers and is going to apply his football regime there. This is probably one area that Redknapp would not be able to impress Levy with, so AVB will be able to stamp his authority in this area, and also have deeper engagements with management and especially the new DOF.

All in all I'm expecting that AVB's challenge is much bigger than Redknapp's, and I hope that the management and fans will see this and have the patience to keep the faith in the initial period.

---------- Friedel??
Walker Kaboul Verts Ekotto
--- Gylfi Sandro Modric
---- Lennon ??? Bale

If Verts signs, a striker really is the priority now.

4-2-3-1 looking thingy I could imagine:

-----------Goalie-----------
Walker-Kaboul-Vertongehn-BAE
--------Holder-Holder---------
VdV------Sigurdsson-----Bale
-------Defoe/new striker-----

With the holders being any two out of Modric(/replacement), Hudd, Sandro, Parker.

I really think Sigurdsson should be in that kind of attacking midfielder/no. 10 role to get the best out of him with two more holding players behind him.

Interesting with the rumours that AVB don't want Ade. Whispers of Higuain or even Leandro Damiao.

I'm guessing it's because he wants a more clinical finisher if true. Ade was great for us in that he gave us a lot of options, could play as a lone striker, could play alongside Defoe while giving us some height and muscle as well.

AVB might want someone who's a bit more of a pure striker, and he might not be as focused on having a tall strong striker option as he will get in more players comfortable enough on the ball to play it out from the back even under a lot of pressure. Falcao at Porto type in the box front man. Higuain would make sense, but I think it's highly unlikely that we'll get him, haven't seen enough for Damiao, but there were some rumours about Dombia as well that might be true.

Am I the only one who thinks Ade could play that role?

I know he isnt as clinical as we would like - but cant help thinking back to his last season at Arsenal (I think?) where he ended up with 30 odd goals.

Under Harry he was expected to play the width of the pitch, run the channels, hold up, assist - bring our attacking play together.

Under AVB I imagine he would be expected to play the width of the 18 yard box and focus on scoring above all else - I believe he could do it.

And, of course, he has such versatility he could offer more besides if we needed it.

Considering his lack of clinical finishing last season, and considering the wide remit of his role - I think his goals/assists return was excellent.

Ade could and can of course play that role, it's more a question of who can we get who would be the best in that role and that might not be Ade.

Edit: My point was more that under Redknapp Ade was great in that he offered so many different things allowing us different option, under AVB we're likely to see an approach where the striker is less likely to be required to fill several different roles like that (I'm speculating here of course) and so we won't depend as much on having a complete striker like Ade and the focus can be more on a goalscorer.

Pricewise and agewise this is probably correct.

Pricewise that might push Ade into the frame. City are apparently desperate to get rid and he wants to return...

Ive no doubt Ade has a wider skill set than is perhaps required, but I do think he can play the "pure striker" role, and that his added attributes could prove useful.

Not if your including wages in the 'price'..

Agree with this. Would be very happy with Ade as our starting lone striker next season.

Depends what his wages are, doesnt it?

Its entirely plausable in their efforts to offload him we can stiff City for a large slice of his wage.

In that case i would be happy.

Ade would be fine, but the wages would be the stumbling block. (Plus itks are saying avb doesn't fancy it)

Ade + Younger Striker (Leandro?) would be nice

As for Luka, if he goes i don't want us to sign a like for like replacement (as i've said before). I want us to switch it up and go with 1 DM, 1 Box to box mid, and 1 attacking mid. So if Luka goes i want a box to box energetic mid as his replacement.
