No problem with Ang calling out Werner, who has been a terrible loan deal however you look at it. Says everything about our atrocious recruitment and squad building efforts that we though loaning a player like this was a good idea, on top wages too.
What tinkles me off though is Johnson and Son, even Udogie and Bissouma get a free pass when they ve all been hopeless for weeks now.
Ange's days are numbered.
We get opened up by so easily. Dont forget this Rangers side is barely Championship quality.
I get the injuries but we just dont fight enough whoever plays.
Lose on the weekend and hes gone i reckon..

It would be so Spurs if the thing that kicked some people over the edge were some critical comments about Timo fudging Werner. Absolutely hilarious.
It's more than timo just read this thread it will tell you everything you need to no

My problem with his timo outburst is he didn't need to tell everybody what he felt. Hook him at half time give him a gonading & say nothing to the media

I still back him to turn it around but he needs results & quickly because if the fanbase especially the home fans turn Daniel will sack him

The narrative is very fair. The basic premise of the article is asking "where are Spurs going with this?" And they're concluding quite reasonably that all the evidence after those initially promising first 10 games is "nowhere" and they also concluding quite reasonably that the consistent inconsistency mustn't actually be that enjoyable for spurs fans...

It's a clickbait opinion blog framed as journalism. It is far from that. Narrow in context, scant on details that don't fit the blogger's opinion, I'd rather read any post on this forum than that rubbish.

Didn’t he just call out Romero about going public, and then actually say that he would never out a player …. Marbles

Yes he did I didn't like what Romero said either. If the players say to themselves fudge you he is screwed. We all know how this plays out of if he losses the players. I guess we will find out against Southampton marbles?

I didn't see the game, but do get the feeling that the words "death knell" apply to Ange tonight. I'm not sure when it happens but I would say the odds shifted massively to him losing his job sooner rather than later.

spacegoating players like he did with Werner is unprofessional and unacceptable. You keep that stuff in-house. It's moments like that where you break a culture in the dressing room. He may now lose it altogether.

Ange needs to get his brick together pretty quickly now. If he is a leader then he needs to lead the club out of this slump. He now needs to go into practical mode, and lose this fantasy football mode he's been in for too long. If he is not prepared to compromise, then he deserves to fall on his sword.
Been saying for a while that things will get worse or the bad streak at least will continue before it gets better.

To me this game doesn't really change anything.

He won't go into practical mode (somewhat depending on what you mean by practical mode). He will succeed or fail doing things his way.

Agreed, the problem is we are in the stumble stage

- Don't win the next two games and you are almost last legs scenario
- Win the next two, and then you hit Pool & Forest away, could easily W/W/L/L

Said above, momentum, injuries. we are in trouble, hard to see a short term turnaround at this point
Been hard to see a short term turnaround for a while now.

I still think we can come out the other side of this a stronger and better team. Not saying that will happen, but I can see it.

Question for me is if Ange can get through this period to even get the chance to see if we'd come out stronger or not.

Not sure how close he is to actually get sacked. It seems like "the stumble stage" as you say, but how close is he actually. Doesn't seem like he's lost the players. Still a good chunk of the fan base supporting him it seems.

W/W/L/L I think he survives. But if it's L/L/L/L or D/L/L/L I'm less certain.

Been saying this for a while. I fully expect us to succumb to Soton on Sunday night, they will be more up for it than us, and then some point on Monday the trigger will be pulled

I am quote confident a replacement is provisionally lined up, just a phone call away ready to take charge for the United game

I think the performances since last January will be more important in most fans’ thinking.

Didn’t Ange say some time ago that he had the final say on recruitment? Either he was lying (in which case, who is ultimately responsible, and why did we re-sign a player who had shown nothing in his loan spell?) or he is shifting the blame for his own error.

I think those comments could well be the final nail in the coffin when it comes to the players’ faith in him. Imagine being one of our defenders now, instructed to spend 90 minutes twice a week charging around like a lunatic, and wondering what the manager will say to the press when you (understandably) eventually run out of steam.

Premeditated or frustration getting the better of him it's certainly a risky move. Either way it points to him really feeling the pressure.

How it will swing with the player group probably will depend on what happens next in games. The days of inconsistency now seem like a beautiful sunrise in the rear view mirror. We're consistent now, but not in the way we want to be. We're in desperate need of a positive experience, results wise at the very least.

I'll be really surprised if there is any change to the coaching staff before the end of the season. Levy for all his traits does learn, and one thing he will have seen is the backlash when Jose was sacked the week before a cup final, so while we are in all three cups and still have a chance of winning them, we will stick not twist.

Recruitment is key now, we need a centre back on loan from Jan to July, and a forward to replace the 20s version of Darren Anderton, aka Richarlison. We also need competition at left back for Destiny.

The reasons I don't think there will be an appetite to change is the lack of options, and the recognition that this 2 year horrible phase is what it took almost all the teams above us to get fully invested in a new philosophy. Arteta, Klopp, and the Chelsea transfer machine took a couple of seasons to get it right, with much greater investment than us and from a position of relative strength by comparison.

Literally the only manager I think is within reach who could sort us out would be Howe and I don't see him leaving toon.

I think you're probably right. Other than what you've said I think there is also an understanding within the club that we went longer term with our transfer business in the summer and that injuries are a massive part of our current struggles.

If you're right I think two things could change that. Either Ange losing the dressing room (at that point is there ever a way back?) or if this current run of really poor results continues. I don't know what the threshold will be for a change on that regard, I hope it's still a good way off. But if it's no wins, out of the league cup and more defeats than draws heading into January I think he may be in real trouble. And I don't think that's particularly unlikely.

I just don’t buy the Klopp/Arteta comparisons any more.

Klopp had a ropey first 25 games at Liverpool. After that, although there were occasional bumps in the road, the clear direction of travel was upward. The inverse of Ange and his first 10 games.

Arteta won a trophy pretty quickly, so it was clear he - and his style of football - could be successful. There were rapid improvements between his 50th game and his 100th. We look like we are going backwards - fast.

As for Chelsea, there can be no comparison. Their model is too different; they’ve spent over £1 billion on their squad, we’ve cut our wage bill by £30 million.

The talk here has been about it taking a couple of years hasn't it? Sure he alluded to that in his first 6 months

Every manager says that once they've signed a contract.

There's only a couple of clubs where a manager is expected to take over an win important things, RM / BM / PSG but generally people are going to state what they want to achieve but then caveat it with "but it will take time". Better to set lower expectations than to set the bar too high, it's a blend on realism or self protection with the ratio depending on your perspective.

My problem is with the current set up is that we look worse in pretty much every regard this season. This is after two decisive summer transfer windows and two full pre seasons. I'm not absolutely certain that Ange is unable to fix it and plus I don't see an immediate option that would improve things so it makes sense to continue as is.

It's hard to build a solid and reliable team with two clowns in midfield, who whilst both suspended for Sunday still managed to get taken off early. It's not Ange's fault they're mediocre but perhaps it was a priority area to focus on rather than buying kids that we couldn't possibly expect something from. Put a proper 6 in there and watch Sarr step up to the next level.

What makes you say that?

I think the lack of an obvious replacement will buy him some time. We’ve also made ourselves a toxic proposition in the eyes of some managers which doesn’t help.

Lose to Southampton and United and I do think he’ll be gone though. A win in the United game will probably buy him until after Christmas.
