Alfie Devine

I'm really pleased that Preston beat Leicester. F**k Leicester, I hope we never see them nor Jamie Vardy ever again in the Prem.

My nephew was filming the game yesterday for derby who he works for
He said he was the best player out there
Talk is Preston can’t actually afford the fee

If he keeps going this way, they don't need to.... an agreement with a championship team... quick in, quick out and a tidy profit in the process.

He clearly isn’t good enough.
Haven't watched him outside of some highlights. Have you watched him more?

Seems to have quality about him and decent potential. But difficult to see a path for him here with Bergvall and Gray already ahead of him despite being younger as well as Donley out on loan.

Guessing that's why we agreed to a purchase option. Good, but not standout. Player development isn't linear, but as long as there isn't a real path for him here and he's not looking like an exceptional talent agreeing to a fee seems fine.

Then again we also agreed to a permanent fee for Spence... Luckily that deal wasn't done.

Maybe it's an age thing. Alfie is 21 now, so at a certain age you have to make a decision, not just for the club but also the young man's progress and career.

Exactly. I think the club should be mindful of that too.

I think we need to be seen as a great destination for really talented young players and doing right by them even if they don't look like making it here is a part of that.

It's a good thing if players who may at other times in our history have been seen as the best of the bunch in an age group are now seen as players we just have to move on because we have others who are better.

I do wonder if there's also a "let's see what happens", if you really step up just don't go there permanently kind of handshake deal though.

I think the reality was that the loan purchase option of £6m is just under 3 times the value PNE have ever paid for a player.

What a story it would be though if PNE get promoted. Alfie was born in Warrington. He was picked up by Liverpool as a kid but released at the age of 11 and went to Wigan who went into administration. Therefore, we snuck in and picked him up as a 16 year old and he finally ends up half way between Warrington and Wigan at PNE on the M6 as a 21 year old. Then the Hemmings family achieve the ultimate dream of taking PNE to the Premier League with Alfie as their talisman, after Spurs continually rejected his talents. £6m will be pocket change.

I think Alfie's camp have been quite clever. He's only got one year left on his contract at the end of this season. I doubt he'll be short of offers and Spurs won't be getting the big bucks unless PNE get promoted. Alfie probably already knows his future lies elsewhere. Spurs will get the sell-on clause inserted.

When we loan a player we usually extend their contract by a year to cover it.

I have seen a couple of his games this season and few from last season. I try and catch games that involve our loan players when ever i have a bit of time and if we are not playing, the joys of having so many different channels on the dodgy firestick ;). I'm not saying he is a bad player, he is definitely a good Championship player and wouldn't look out of place in a lower level Prem team, i just don't think he is good enough to get into our squad. He may well break into the team as a Carrol, Skipp, Mason type but as we saw with those players they either end up low level Prem team or end up in the championship.
