Squad

From milo on the pod: (Ignoring Scarlett).

We can register 22 players on the A list (max 25, but 4 have to be club trained, we only have Austin). Three of them have to be goalkeepers so we're left with 19 outfield players. Two for every position except one position. 20 outfield players if you include Scarlett.

If we are going for two more attacking players as being linked with I struggle to see how we don't end up with players we can't register for Europe. Will be interesting to see who that ends up being.

Yeah, on the pod the guys were only factoring in the Madds replacement in their thinking. They weren't thinking 2 newbies.

I see it slightly differently as I'm considering VDV more as another backup LB option and Gray as utility for both centre half and full-back along with his core role. I am not selecting Davies as I want the CL to be a learning experience and have no expectations on us doing anything big in the competition. We need to be focusing on the league.

Venom (A), Kinsky (A), Austin (CT)
Porro (A), Udogie (A), Spence (AT)
Romero (A), VDV (A), Danso (A), Takai (A)
Palinha (A), Bentancur (A), Sarr (A), Bergval (A), Gray (AT)
AM New Signing (A), Kudus (A), Winger New Signing (A), Odobert (A), Tel (A), Johnson (AT)
Solanke (AT), Richi (A), Scarlett (B)

Not selected - Davies, Dragu, Kulu, Madds, Biss, Solomon, Gil

If you look closely, I'm one over but do have the 4 association trained and 1 club trained boxes ticked. I'm assuming Milo is right when he stated that Gray can be association trained based on UEFA's definition even though he can't be B-list. I'm pretty certain that's he's right.

As for my 1 over, I might be tempted with Sarr as he's inevitably missing match days 6,7 and 8 anyway with AFCON. The league cup games will be at the same time as CL matches 1-5 and I would let him lead the charge in that domestic cup.

It is a dream scenario for Spurs. to be so stacked with talented players, that we have to leave good players out of a squad for a competition.

I need TP for my bunghole.

E.g. you might think Odobert is good but if we suddenly signed Messi we would put Odobert in the bins behind the East stand, sharpish.

One of Odobert, Tel or Johnson is going to have to drop out if we get the two new signings in and if Kulu has any prospective of being fit relatively soon. We can't really afford to build the CL squad with just the new AM as the sole central tempo setting creative option. If that player is unavailable for any games for whatever reason we'll back to stage one and besides you never want to totally reliant on a single creator in a squad. Either that or Takai doesn't make it.

Depends if they feel Bergvall is a viable 10 no?

I've been pondering how the hell Cheatski seem to sign 5 wide forwards every year, so I took a look at their incomings and outgoings in recent years. Figures are in EUROS from TransferMarkt

In 22/23 they got Mudryk Sterling Madueke = Suspended, trying to sell, sold for profit
In 23/24 they got Nkunku Palmer Jackson = trying to sell, good, trying to sell
In 24/25 they got Neto Felix = ok, sold at a loss
In 25/26 they got Pedro Gittens Delap Estevao which seems like a good crop of forwards

Anyway, here is the full monty, every player worth over EUR20. So hard to keep up with and remember who these players actually are!

The "buy everyone, keep whoever does really well, sell rinse and repeat" approach to squad building.

Don't mind me, just having a little think. Useful to have the squad laid out.

........................................Vicario
.................................................(Kinsky)
................................................((Austin))

Porro ................Romero............... VdV............. Udogie
(Spence...............Dragusin Danso Takai......................Davies)
((...........................Phillips Dorrington Vuskovic......................))

...........................Palhinha Gray Bentancur
...................................Sarr Bergvall

................................................((Devine))

.....................................Deki Maddison
...................................................((Donley))

Kudus ..................Solanke............ Richie............Tel
(Johnson......................................................................... Odobert)
((Yang............................Scarlett Lankshear.................Moore))

Bissouma Gil Solomon etc

The really tricky part is, at some point we might have 8 injuries, but we don't know which 8 players will be out at any one time.

Sorry, but I just don’t consider this squad to be a bottom half squad, or one that should have been relegated. It’s very good with a couple of holes, 5th to 8th type area.

---------------------------------Vicario(Kinsky)

Porro(Spence)-Romero(Dragusin)-van de Ven(Danso)-Udogie(Davies)

-----------------Palhinha(Bentancur)-------Sarr(Bergvall)

-----------------------------Simons(Kulusevski)

----Kudus(Johnson)--------------------------------------Odobert(Tel)

------------------------------Richarlison(Solanke)

Yup. And I suspect it’ll be the currently injured players who miss out on the CL squad (Kulu, Dragusin, Takai)

two things stand out there.

1 - Spence is cover for both sides and is ahead of Davies at LB
2 - The weakest link for me is now the keepers. Vicario is not as good as our best defender, midfielder or forward relatively, and Kinsky is young and one for the future. If City want to buy Donnarumma I would go and get Ederson off them I think.

Id definitely prioritise scouting a LB for January

Im ok with the keepers. Gunter coming through seems promising too.

For me its the CFs that seem weakest. We've got 2 solid established ones, and Lankshear and maybe Tel for the future. But no one really outstanding who Id back to get 25+ goals

Starting to look good for several good options for various positions. As important also starting to look good for complimentary skill sets and more balance within the squad.

Last season being without Maddison and Kulusevski would have been a real problem, now looking more like that could be fine actually.

Palhinha has slottet right in looking at home. Looks a great combo with Bentancur and Sarr. Kudus and Porro looking like a really promising partnership and Kudus obviously also providing service for the strikers.

Will be interesting to see how Simons fits in. Think there are several players who'll really enjoy playing with him.

Overall I believe the squad is well balanced at this stage, I think getting a fullback who is 1st team ready would make this an excellent transfer window. We often try for a surprise signing plus a youngster on the last day, it's nice to see so much enthusiasm on the site after the continuous depression and anger of last season. I'm pleased so far only time will tell.

Apart from City who has?

I agree about Vicario, he seems too excitable and needs to calm down and that works its way into the defence. It may help him playing with a stable defensive plan and a tactical change of going long when necessary. I've not seen any outstanding keepers who would be available, plenty of young promising ones but a few of them have struggled when moving to larger clubs, there are virtually no keepers who come and claim crosses and corners are a complete lottery for most.

When you consider that this will be Davies' last season I would suggest that the club has the right mix when it comes to age profile.
