Squad

games coming up quickly, are we ready for the new season?

8th Aug - Pre season Telekom Cup v Bayern Munchen
14th Aug - Super Cup Final v PSG
16th Aug - Premier League 1st Game v Burnley

great that loan-outs are done, feels like we are leaving it late for more additions probably to avoid getting into a bidding war
Nope, 13th
There is no way we would play 14th and 16th!

Need to sell davies and bring in a hg defender otherwise we could struggle in the cl.
If we could sell bissouma and kulu bring in elliot and gallagher i'd be happy. Would sort out the cl squad.
Pl we're fine.
I do not think home grown players is the problem in the CL. No, the problem is our lack of club trained players.

We don't - we've just loaned out the 9 most first team ready. Olusesi and Gunter are the only two left who have been anywhere near the adult squad.
Not academy U21s, the players under 21 who can go on the B list in the PL, but can't in the CL because of the UEFA rule that players must have been at the club for two years to be able to be on the B-list.

So Bergvall, Gray, Odobert etc go on the B-list in the PL meaning that we don't really have registration issues in the PL despite lacking club trained players.

The B List is only for U21 players who have been at the club longer than 2 years. None of them have more than 1 year yet.

That's correct. Those 6 players all need to be in the A list.

If I'm looking around for B-listers, I only see Scarlett on our first team squad list (official website). The only U21s who have been with Ange are Olusesi, Hardy and King from memory.

I think you can actually see through implication that Spurs are going to give CL our best shot with the 1st team squad but don't have it as a priority over the league. With all of the 3-5 U21 players that could have strengthened the B-list being sent out on loan, we've chosen the long game. Devine and Donley are examples.

I don't think there is any major expectation on Frank to get to the knockout stages. There is a bigger expectation to try and get 5th place in the league.

They were on the b list last season.

What you talk about is the complexity of the 2 systems. PL don't really have a B-list. They just lump all the U21s in one big bucket. UEFA clearly do and that 2 year registration rule excludes them from B-list, and pushes them back into A.

UEFA are basically saying that you can nick U21's from either your or another football association but they have to be treated like your non-homegrown 1st teamers.

So Spurs end up with something like 6 U21s that are free-picks in PL but have to compete with the senior players for the 17 places in the UEFA A-list.

Hence why i said we were short on hg in the prem but it's ok as we had u21s.

Yeah, the PL is bread and butter and is this season's priority.

With the club trained rules I think we will head into CL with a realistic squad of 22. Perhaps 23 with Scarlett as the only significant U21 B-lister. So something like 20 outfield players. That only has to drop by 3 outfield injuries and you're into the academy players to pad out the 20 man match day squad. That's not factoring in where Frank wants to rest and rotate players and leave them out altogether.

I think there is a high chance we will see a new crop of U21's in the CL squads this season. As you say though, not in the PL as probably not required.

From milo on the pod: (Ignoring Scarlett).

We can register 22 players on the A list (max 25, but 4 have to be club trained, we only have Austin). Three of them have to be goalkeepers so we're left with 19 outfield players. Two for every position except one position. 20 outfield players if you include Scarlett.

If we are going for two more attacking players as being linked with I struggle to see how we don't end up with players we can't register for Europe. Will be interesting to see who that ends up being.
