Cody Gakpo

That's true but not from me. 😉

I think with Gakpo I'm just not bothered now with him. I'm fairly satisfied with what we have. It's obviously not perfect but I feel happy enough to evaluate what we have now, and to make additions in the winter/summer based on what we see. We've made so many changes there is a danger of there being too much flux and it never really settling.

I know some people want to aim for the stars this season and honestly I can't begrudge that but I think we just need a decent season, minimal injuries and see what we are now. Top 8 but leaning more towards top 6 would satisfy me.

Top 8 is shooting way too low with the squad we have now, the quality; the depth, and no Europe.

I'm taking into consideration the time it's going to take to gel. It's a lot of changes. Top 8 is my worst case scenario, but not a weak Top 8. I would expect it to be a season where top 6 was possible up to a late stage.

There's a long journey ahead and we don't know how it's going to play out. I'm very open minded, but I'm expecting turbulence. 😬

Finish 7th, qualify for the Conference league. Have a season with European football to give the B team a run out and go on to win it and finish top 5 for the following season. Thats then 2 European trophies in 4 seasons.

That’s why I’m very interested in who it is if not Gakpo. We’ve gone all out for RDZ’s top targets and by and large succeeded. Who’s next down the list if we can’t get Gakpo?
The one doing the rounds is Ndiaye, but that makes no sense to me. I see City are now linked with him! Which to me makes more sense for them, with Gakpo making more sense for us! Here's hoping it plays out.

Ndiaye for me over Gakpo in this window.

Then we solely need to focus on the churn of Solanke and Richi to bring in better number 9s in future windows. Knowing the dearth of these players I'm willing to invest in Solanke for 6 months. Marmoush can also play 9. I'm pretty certain Kudus could play 10 as well.

That leaves loads of options for a season of only domestic football.

Ndiaye's a fine player, but why would you choose him over Gakpo?

Creativity. He's a lock-picker with his dribbling and passing. Gakpo is blunter - he's power and shooting.

Ndiaye had 6 goals and 3 assists across 32 PL games last season.
Gakpo had 7 goals and 5 assists in 36 PL games last season.
Numbers not a million miles from each other.

Yes, I understand Gakpo's ability to play as a 9. It is a significant reason why I'd like him, as he offers dimensions we don't have right now.

We already have Savio and Kudus as elite dribblers, and Xavi likes to give it a go too. We don't have as much sheer power upfront of the kind Gakpo could bring.

I am not sure we could convince Ndiaye to come here given who we already have in the squad TBH.

Robertson for me. Use him in the Henderson role and play Souza as rotation,.
It was the senior 17 non HG limit in the 25 man PL squad I was referring too , who drops out of the 17 if we sign another non HG , all the new non HG signings like Roberstson must be guaranteed a place. Might have missed someone but I make it 20 at the moment not including Simons so as it stands three of these won't be named in next weeks PL squad.
Not certain on Tel if he is still classed as u21 or not under PL rules he was 21 before end of last season yet AI still says he is qualifies as U21.

1, Kinsky 2 Dubravka 3 Porro 4 Hecke , 5 Senesi , 6 VDV , 7 Robertson 8 Udogie 9 Tonali 10 Fernandes 11 Bentancur 12 Kudus 13 Savio 14 Richarlison 15 Marmoush 16 Kudus, 17 Tel , 18 Deki 19 Takai 20 Sarr

Tel is U21. The rule is you need to be under 21 at the start of the calendar year for the upcoming season. Worth noting Kudus appears twice on your list also
