Savinho

Yeah and I guess it’s very hard to prove anyway. Eg Savinho fee being that high but…younger? More potential? Who’s to say he isn’t worth it? Who’s to say we aren’t desperate for a winger and wouldn’t pay it?

Just seems ridiculous that you can have multiple journalists pumping out that it’s to avoid a sell on and yet City and us will get away with it scot free. Maybe all clubs do it and surely we’ve been affected by it too, so maybe it’s just the cost of doing business and when these opportunities arise, you take them.
Even if true, there’s still got to be a financial/accounting risk in terms of book value v sale value in the future?
Plus engage in that kind of deal and it’s open to backfiring on incomings from other sell-on deals in the future? I’m sure it’s not straightforward at all.

Don’t think that’s fair. We got away with most of the dodgy stuff we did in the late 80’s in the end. Zeki Fryers to Belgium and then to us etc.
Wasn’t there a deal like this with did in more recent years? Can’t remember but something like the Porro deal, or something with anotherPortuguese/Spanish club?

Looks like Frankfurt have a 15% sell on clause of any profit above the original £59m price City paid for him.

So if we paid £59m, it would be hard to argue Marmoush is being sold on the cheap.

It sounds like City are squeezing it even more though... suppressing the price further than that and ramping the Savio price even higher. Actually Booking a loss on Marmoush and as big a profit as possible on Savio.

Nope. it's legit, he's even done a video where he say's Marmoush is next, and Alli Gold agrees (separate post).

As @thfcsteff said, seems we have refused to compromise on our #1 choices

I saw your point about the jury being out on the Nepo kids because it may end up that our net spend won’t be that much more this summer. And to an extent I agree with that.

But also, it seems like smart clubs are just trading better now. Becoming more willing sellers in order to sign the right players for their manager. And importantly the top clubs pay the wages. The biggest difference in approach for us is that we’re acting decisively on the players we want, and we’re paying the wages. It is extremely exciting to think about what we could do this season with this squad and no Europe.

That, even without a massive increase in net spend, is a huge step change. My thing would be can we make big moves in coming seasons when we may only need one or two key players, will we still have the stomach to get the very best that the manager demands? And because we signed slightly more proven, do we sell at peak value again? Or are we willing to spend to rebuild again in 5 years? Those are big questions for me.

I think the big clubs got comfortable (us included, but see Chelsea, United), and got caught out a bit by the Villa/Saudi Sportswashing Machine/Brighton/etc. Looks like the top 6 have decided to flex that financial power, pick the bones off the "best of the rest" ad return to status quo.

Re us, yes, the proof is next season, and the season after. Will we continue to move on fringe players, and upgrade even more? could see another CF, a long term creative CM (if Xavi doesn't step up), a LB if Udogie doesn't get over injuries, and even Kinsky could be upgraded if he doesn't continue to improve.

I guess Xavi will make the announcement video.

I can’t wait for Savinho to play regularly and silence those doubters who are writing him off and saying that we massively overpaid.

So this wasn’t a endless time loop we were all co-existing in!

Now it’s finally done (or about to be), I feel better about this deal than before. Young, exciting, PL experienced and most importantly wants to join us. I’m sure he would have been receiving interest from other clubs but it never seemed that he was even remotely interested in going elsewhere.

COYS!
