Savinho

I feel that his reputation is based more off being Brazilian and playing for City than it is anything he has done on a football pitch for a few years

If he ain't good enough for pep, he ain't good enough for us. Need players on the way up, not the way down.

I tend to take this view. But we have seen the likes of Salah at Chelsea and many others fail and come back to become world beaters. Grealish even. And age is on Savinhos side.

Honestly my view of him is from when he was named Savio and played for Girona. He played on the left and had a playmaker/goal instigator role. He was very, very good there, which is what led to the City move in the first place.

I don't know if a move from City will reinvigorate him but I do see that at City they tend to play him on the right and as a direct cut in threat whereas at his best he was a little bit more indirect and a linker and creative attacker who could also finish. Pep never really uses him in that way and so I kind of wonder if a return to that style would get those kind of performances out of him.

It's a pretty obvious and simple conversation to have - 'We have deals for these players lined up - Are you happy with them, or are there targets you prefer that you think will come?'

We aren't signing players he doesn't want, there is literally zero chance of that happening for many reasons....

We’ve done it before, but I hope we have learned.

He is levels above what we have bar Kudus. But regardless of what I think, long as RDZ wants him it's all good....
He's not. He's been so bad this year when he's played for City (which he hasn't much) that it's a reach to say he's as good as Odobert. I know a couple of season ticket holders and they think he's crap, to be blunt. The last thing we need is another overpriced, unproven winger with no end product. We have enough 'projects'; we need to spend big money on 3/4 players and raise the ceiling for our existing lot.

Well I can only disagree mate. Have seen a fair bit of him, at Girona and City and technically he is far above our other young talents. I wouldn't judge him too much based on under Pep as he stunts a lot of wingers and tries to change a lot - it works for some and not others, see Grealish.

But if you don't agree that's cool, I'm really not that invested either way - if RDZ has approved I'm fine with it :)....

Ha! I'm less familiar with his Girona performances and you're spot on about Pep's use of wingers. If the price reflects the brick wall his progress has hit at City and de Zerbi wants him, then maybe he's worth a go. But I'm still not sure we should be buying potential in this window.

I wouldn't overlook that particular part. It is often difficult for players to do well when they rarely play.

Not sure how I feel about Savinho. In 84 appearances in a dominant City team he has only 7 goals and 13 assists.

We need wide players with better production than what we currently have. Someone like Greenwood fits the profile (81 games, 64 G/A), as well as the production needed.

We won't be able to attract the very best though. They'll of course sign for the goons, city etc. We have to get the unproven, those with potential, and help them develop.
