Transfer thread

Could we be spending the Johnson cash on Akliouche?

We have a habit of signing players who have played well against us. Idk how consistent he is but he bossed the game we played against them last season. Would be a big addition in midfield, and would be excited to see him, Gray and Bergvall develop together. If we managed to get a midfielder like Akliouche and a left winger Dimond geezer or whatever, I’d be very happy.
Very talented but I think they wanted big money for him

Samu Aghehowa and Kenan Yildiz were a couple of names popping up in some media speculation.

Seems a really talented footballer, but not sure he is what we need. More of a 10, we already have Simons and hopefully Kulusevski returning at some point. Unless Frank would see him as someone he could trust as a deeper playmaker, which I think is a big ask.

At the moment we are sorely lacking the ability to shimmy and pass. Essentially what Maddison does, Kulu too. And Akliouche does well also. But yes seems like Simons is the one we signed. He's also able to play that role, but is a lot smaller and lighter than Akliouche. I think he could play deeper.

@Silly McSilly Face the way he played against us last season, he has arrived, he's almost 24 and playing at an elite level. I have some questions whether he could transfer it to the Prem week in and out. Much tougher ask than playing in Monaco in League 1. He's 6 foot, but not particulary built.

Surely we can't be relying on two teenagers in midfield now? I like it. I want it to work. But fans needs to accept that if we're starting Bergvall and Gray there will be goals and points dropped at times, as they refine their play. I don't get how fans are harping on about a LB when we are playing two teenagers in midfield (allbeit excellent exciting players), and we have no clear player for left wing.

I'm sure we'll try. But this is the classic Spurs linked to elite player name, that we get every window. We're probably being used to get better terms from Juve for a new contract, or to put pressure on another buying club. You never know, maybe we are prepared to throw money at him post-Levy. Fingers crossed. I wouldn't hold your breath tho!

Impossible to know of course, but I think had it been Simons playing for Monaco that day and Akliouche for us the argument would have been made that it should have been Simons we signed instead.

We need players who can shimmy and pass up to Simons and others in those areas. I doubt Akliouche is someone who would come in and be trusted by Frank to play a deep role like that. As you say, big step up.

Left wing, deep playmaker and left back would be my three top priorities, not necessarily in that order. January tends to be more about availability than priorities though.

Agreed. But I think Udogie and Spence are ample left backs. With Davies emergency cover. I'd put attacking depth ahead of LB. VDV even plays LB for his country. We're stacked with quality players. So I'd prioritise a midfielder, left winger, forward, another midfielder, before I started to add to options at LB.

We have enough up and coming talents. We could really do with some battle hardened experience spread more across the team. We could also do with some bigger, intimidating, physical players.
Only if those physical players have the technical quality to match imo.

There are areas where we imo shouldn't sign more up and coming talents imo. But other areas where a young talent who is already good enough to step in for some games at least (Bergvall/Gray type deal) or someone super talented who may need some time (Simons type deal) could be very good. Left back, LB/LCB hybrid, striker (would have to replace someone).

Guess Kudus would be the battle hardened experienced example (along with Solanke, Maddison previously)? Not against that at all, but the best of those players tend to get snapped up by bigger clubs so usually a trade off there.

i am with you here. we have too many weak players by epl standards.
we are so impressed with the strength and physicality of paulinha and kudus - probably the best in the squad - but we need that in more than half the squad

Spence isn't a left back. We look so much better attacking wise when a natural left footer plays there
