Brennan Johnson

agree but again that's not his fault that we are playing a right winger who's played his entire career predominantly on the right, as a left winger because we lack experience in that position.
It doesn't make any difference. If Kudus was a LW we would still see the same performance form Johnson on the right. Have you forgotten how he actually plays during gameplay on the right or have you been blinded by the goal numbers?

Its pretty obvious that when Johnson starts teams are going to target Kudus because Johnson is no where near as threatening. We need a left winger who will scare the defence aswell as Kudus does. Johnson is not that person.
Or another creative player in the centre that can also scare them, and do useful things with the ball including combining with Johnson and releasing him.

Which is part of why we signed Simons imo.

agree its not his fault he can't play on the left.
the problem is kudus is better on the right, and obviously richy or kolo in the centre
where do you think Johnson should play with the new additions?

I think as the season progresses, and maybe already fairly soon, Johnson will end up starting on the bench most games unless there are injuries and/or rotation. Up to him to respond well to that competition for places.

Hopefully Frank will be able to start him when he sees the game as favourable for what Johnson brings.

But I also think that if Kudus continues to do well and Simons and Kolo Muani show their qualities fairly quickly Johnson will end up having a better time overall when he starts and plays than he has in the past. He'll get more of the service he needs. And when he gets that service he's really effective imo.

Whilst against lower league opposition, Johnson’s performance last night gave hints that he is learning and improving as a player. Some of his crosses, whether low or flighted crosses, were made with just the right power and path of ball. If we had a better striker than Tel or Richarlison then I suspect that Johnson would have also picked up an assist last night.

Johnson also took his chance well at the end and showed good late pace against a high line defence.

He appears to be improving and whilst I’ve been critical in the past, perhaps I’m seeing signs that he could change people’s minds about him. He needs to be doing this against Premier League sides etc and more consistently but he could well be a more important player for us in future than many had expected him to be. He needs to keep his head, stay focused and keep learning and let’s see where he can go from here.

i think its on TF who just knows how to set up to maximize player's strengths.
johnson has always been good chasing down balls and scoring from through balls at pace

while a bit narrow in terms of skillset, he makes up for it with being extra reliable in his strengths

Really do think this role suits him better than what we saw under Ange and when he played on the left earlier this season without a left footed full back behind him.

But also some positive signs of development there as you say. Looked more proactive in possession, taking players on. Obviously going to be easier against a League One team, but encouraging none the less.

Why did we bring him on? 🤣🤣🤣

All that did was kill the momentum Kudus had for Johnson to do his best ghost impersonation.

We saw in midweek his level in general play and it's not the PL.
