Cristian Romero

Absolutely robbed yesterday. What a joke of a decision by the officials.
I just realized his heading in the opposition box is excellent but his heading in his own box is pretty weak.

Attacking a ball and heading it even in a challenge is a fairly different skill than marking a player. See it when he's attacking the ball for long balls against us too, typically really good in those situations.

Perhaps also a result of our overall difficulties defensively in recent years? Have been a couple of those "could have done a better job marking his man" situations this season imo, but perhaps fewer than last season?

He looks absolutely World Class again, I think the tactics absolutely work in his favour, also with MVDV, both being able to almost play within themselves helps ALOT, no more hamstring busting runs to bail the the tactics out

I genuinely think it was the previous management's insistence on holding that offside line that hampered Romero. He would be expected to stay in a line on his own 18 yard box when his instincts were telling to pivot or go with his man. That also made him look like he wasn't so good in the air as it changed his starting position. Secretly, he hated the deep offside tactics.

So much of defending is in your head and based on instinct. When you constrain that too much, bad things happen.
