Eberechi Eze

Agreed. Eze would have been a statement of intent. Supposedly we have alternative options. There is no way the alternative will be as good a deal as Eze for 55-60m. It’s a great deal. And fantastic for Arsenal.
Yeah, not going to go into 'meltdown' or whatever over it because I'm sure most of us on here are almost immune to this stuff by now.

But what this window has shown if you ever were in doubt is that ENIC will never change in the way they operate. No fantastic new stadium, Champions League football, lighter wage bill with Son and Kane gone will change anything. We don't necessarily need new owners with a bottomless amount of cash to look to spend, but a different more ambitious mindset for approaching transfers would be welcome and that doesn't mean am demanding to 'Just pay the F'ing money' for players x/y and z....

What can you do though. Marinakis being a clam and Palace not wanting to sell before a game and getting a replacement, Scum gets a guy injured, and all of a sudden Eze has a chance to join his boyhood club. What can you do? It's bad luck.
I think the amount of times we fudge things up goes beyond luck. In Ezes regard what could we have done? Perhaps pay the release fee, considering what we were looking at paying was meant to be around that figure, just in more favourable terms.....

The issue is not if he is perfect or what we need. It's that Arsenal took a player off us. Under our nose. Worse than William as it's the scum

Were we ever that interested or advanced? His name only came up 10 days ago - more than a month after MGW

We also got the Akliouche (a carbon copy of MGW) link come out a few days ago, which made no sense at the time, but maybe our negotiators picked up on the being played to get Arsenal to pay vibe from much earlier

Its not ambition to simply overpay for more Maddisons and Solankes (which is what Eze is). He's a good player, but he's not near Kudus' level

Its not bad luck. Everyone knew the deal with Marinakis before the window. Everyone knew they weren't going to let Elanga and MGW leave in the same window. Everyone knew Eze was basically an Arsenal player before the window and Palace just needed the replacement. We didnt have our ducks lined up this window - we are scrabbling around from unrealistic deal to unrealistic deal looking desperate with no real strategy as per usual. We are less than 2 weeks away from deadline day and we have no fit attacking midfielders, no Son replacement and short at CB if Frank wants to play a back 3 in big games. And for most of these deals it looks like we find ourselves at square one.
