Transfer thread

Cant go into the season with just 3 recognised centre backs and Davies as an emergency choice. I could say the same for our sgrikers though and our midfield. Very worrying if we are going to rely on Solanke and Richo. Both injury prone at lets be honest, very average players.

How long is takai out for? Or dragusin?

Do we leave them out of the squad till jan?

There's 25 squad places. We can't be going into the season with 30 players.

Yeah, we just don't know. The club will probably have a better idea of it.

More concerned about strikers unless Richarlison somehow gets past his injury problems.

Strange that the club wants a senior centre back, *unless* the plan is to shift to 3-at-the-back.

Otherwise, there are far too many already at the club - we have four senior ones plus Takai, and that's not counting the likes of Vuskovic, Dorrington and Phillips who are on the loan circuit.

But, if we're going 3 at the back with Porro and Udogie as the wing-backs, that makes marginally more sense. Though, in that case, the likes of Odobert and Johnson would be out of luck - no real place for wingers in a 3-at-the-back system.

I'm not convinced we will be in for another CB unless Romero is going, if we was going 3 at the back I'm sure Frank would have been setting the teams up as of such in pre season. But lets see, obviously I don't truly know.

And more to the point, it is our attack that needs investment. Our forward line for the most part looks pretty average, and that's before you consider the need for an AM. I would be shocked if we are looking at another CB (or at least a significant investment in one) before working on our attacking issues...

Across the board, our forward line looks pretty average still. I would be a little concerned if we don't invest in some genuine quality in this area...
Brother I've been preaching this cause for 2 years. It's quite mediocre tbh and Ange's setup masked it somewhat with his gung-ho nature but now with a more sensible and balanced system we are going to see the downside of these forwards.

We've brought in 4 of the 6 (Solanke, Odobert, Tel and Kudus) in the last 12 months, so it is something that is being addressed.

I think we will replace Richy with someone, hopefully like Muani, this window which will help us

I’m making assumptions but… dragusin is running and has been doing all the things you would expect from a fully fit player but not getting match time (being managed of course)
Takai is tricky because it’s trial and error to fix but can be quick fixes (Sonny had the same issue)

My guess is dragusin will be said ready end of August

I remain to be convinced by Tel and Solanke tbh. I don't see the enormous potential many see in Tel but can see a decent player there eventually and Solanke is decent and will do better with proper service but he's frankly an average player. He's the sort of striker I'd love to have as our secondary option rather than being the primary guy.

Kudus is ready to go but even Odobert who I'm quite positive on looks like he needs a bit of time in the oven to finish baking. So for me it's not an inspiring bunch albeit there are some potential shoots here and there. Frank might well pull the best out of the lot of them but I'm a bit doubtful tbh.

The only foreward player we have who looks top drawer is Kudus. Johnson will get goals but he doesnt contribute enough for me. The rest are just uninspiring .

Whether we supporters rate the forwards or not is by the by - we've signed 5 attackers since 2023, 4 of which came within the last year - so LW (Tel + Odobert) CF (Solanke) & RW (Johnson + Kudus) are set for this coming season for better or worse - there is only really space to add a CF to compete with Solanke.

ACM is the only realistic position beyond that to improve things on paper that the club are probably looking at in an attacking sense.

Yep pretty much. We also have Richi for CF and possibly Kulu if we consider him RW. And somehow we still have Solomon and Gil knocking about but it's right to not count them.

The only way we add another forward is if one leaves. Squad places are tight as it is.

I agree that right now our front line isn't good enough for where we want to be.

I'm really excited to see what Frank can do with those players though. Think there's a lot of potential there and he did good things with Brentford attackers getting them to step up.

ACM/10 went from a priority to the absolutely biggest priority with the signings of Palhinha and the injury to Maddison anyway. So that's where we should be prioritising our money anyway.

Been some talk about Kolo Muani? Think that kind of versatile forward could make a lot of sense, but probably would depend on Richarlison leaving and not a ton of those versatile forwards around who can play wide and as a lone striker.
