Cristian Romero

It's a 3 point axis with Romero.
His ability, his availability, his contract

I think due to the latter two it leans towards him going.

I don't know if I'm ok with that tbh. Bit torn
You've missed a fourth one - his actual performances, which is more important than his ability.

There is no doubt he can put in a top class performance, but rest assured once he has he will back that up with a mediocre one at best. I like him, but he is unreliable in aspects ranging from availability to rashness to just all round defensive competence. I think he will be better suited in Spain where they have a higher tolerance for his antics, he would fit right in to a Simeone team and I'd enjoy watching it :D....

2 years left on his contract and wants a new challenge...

"LaLiga is the one [league] left to play in. I would love to, to tell you the truth. I would love to play there because it's the league I'm missing."

"The truth is I haven't spoken to my representative yet but I'm open to anything," he said. "In my head, I always [think about] growing, also [about] going to new places to keep growing but I don't want to talk about that yet because there's a few months left in the season.

"Above all, I try live the day to day. There are almost two months until the championship ends and in my head it's always [about] competing to the maximum, trying to finish in the best possible way."

If he doesn't sign a new contract this summer, he needs to go IMO.

I will. He was played into the ground with little rest due to club and International commitments. He is one of the best centre backs about and if he’s here next season, he will show that as no International commitments in the summer so he can fully rest.

I think many of those who wish him to be gone will soon regret their wish when we see who replaces him and just how well Romero performs elsewhere.
Danso has done well when covering him. Vuskovic looks like he is going to be top quality and if he continues developing to his potential will be a step above Romero. Will still need to sign someone for now though.

I will imo he is a player we really need to keep hold off. We have bigger problems we will have to deal with during the summer losing him will weaken us. Of course that is just my opinion and i am sure they will be a few who disagree with me.
It's all hard to say when there's so many problems, as you said, and if it's stemming from the management of the team (which I think it is), then all these faults can be mitigated or eliminated and we see players performing at their ability rather than behind it.

Do not disagree at all with that. Our CM is wide open and is in most games and we are desperate for a player in there who can see danger before it happens. Our defense especially Romero gets a lot of stick from some fans but a lot of their problems are bought on by having no strength in the centre of our M/F. imo

He's brick and been brick for us. I get shot down by my mates for this but I've never rated him.

OUt of position a lot, reckless and injured a lot. Dan Burn is a better defender than him.

We can do better and he seems he can do better than us, so a match made in heaven for him to fudge right off.

I used to think he was a really good defender apart from the rash tackling. Whereas these days he seems to have more lapses in basic defending too (positioning, awareness etc).

Still LOVE his passing though, and think we will really miss that if he goes.
Yeh tbf he is good at that and that used to work with Ange, but even now that's brick.

I think he's made it pretty clear on a new contract.

He like so many other quality Spurs players over the years want's to be a winner. He understands that at Spurs he isn't going to do that, and in his circumstances no one should blame him.

He will end up at one of the Madrid teams, or go to Inter, possibly Napoli.

To be fair I don't think either of those teams consider him to be "brick", especially as those teams have the reputation to sign pretty much who they want.

His passing may be good but he still passes the ball to an attacker atleast once a game. The guy is vastly overrated by some Spurs fans, not even in the top 10 CB’s in the league yet people say he is world class.

'His passing may be good but he still passes the ball to an attacker atleast once a game'

We have nine other outfield players who do that.

Overrated or not he will go to one of the best clubs in Europe, and likely win trophies. He will never do that at Spurs under the current circumstances.

Lets be clear, who the fudge would want to be a defender in an Ange team?

Really trying not to keep banging on (and failing), but you are being hung out to dry every game.

That as choice A, or B is go play for a manager that actually likes his team to defend (Simone), and loves a clean sheet, and as a bonus you have a shot at winning stuff, what defender would stay?

100% spot on!

Good post!

Probably but doesn't mean he's any good. He wouldn't get into any of the following

City
Arsenal
Chelsea
Liverpool
Villa
Saudi Sportswashing Machine
Forest

I could go on

No mate, too lazy to even look, Villa plays Pau Torres, you really aren't trying to tell me Torres is a better CB than Romero? you think Milenkovic is a better CB than Romero?

Villa has conceded 4 less goals than Spurs despite losing 10 less games than Spurs, their defense should be questioned.

I'd be amazed if most of the managers on that list wouldn't take Romero in a heartbeat, there are clearly clubs in both Spain and Italy that will take him.

Villa dont play Torres, they play Tyrone Mings (yes hes better than Romero) and Disasi (better than Romero). Konsa is miles better than Romero.

Ask Saudi Sportswashing Machine fans who theyd prefer, Burn or Romero.

Ask Gooners who theyd prefer Saliba and Gabriel or our two?

Same goes for Liverpool.

Nathan Ake, Stones, Dias, Akanji, hundred times better than Romero.

And yes, I think Milenkovic is better and that other Brazilian forest have.

this is the problem with some Spurs fans, they actually think the top 4/6 care about us, or want our players. Mate come on none of them do. Stop being rose tinted, theres a reason we are 16th, Ange and our defense is crap.

Last night we actually looked more solid with Davies and Danso on. Fact.
